I have two Howatt bows. A 54" high speed and an older 62" Monterey. I noticed that both bows have more tiller in the upper limb than the lower. I know this is normal, but 1/2 inch on upper limb is more than other bows I have. They both shoot and perform very well. I just wondered if anyone ever noticed this.

I just refinished the Hi-speed with max 2k.Can anyone tell me the approximate year of this bow?

it's a early sixties bow. can't say for sure without a serial #. it is made of real brazilian rosewood. if they are both that way, they are both slightly out of tiller. 1/4" is the max we did. it depends on where you are measuring the tiller. measuring at the fade like you would a compound will give a false reading on our bows. they are measured at the maximum bend when strung on both limbs.

Larry, I measured the tiller at max of limb and yes, it is 1/4 of an inch more top limb. The serial number is HSV8565-54. !965?

It is a joy to shoot.

Kind of a mint green shield with---Howatt High Speed, Yakima Wash. Underneath The shield is a banner with ne plus ultra.

i think you are right about 1965. sometimes hard to tell with photo's.

Thanks, Larry. I think the serial number started with HSU( High speed ultra) instead of HSV. The photo is not real good for the wood color . Overall, the Brazilian rosewood is quite a bit darker. Beautiful wood.

Are you sure that isn't a "V" in the serial number? I would take it to mean "Hi-Speed Ventura," i.e. a Hi-Speed with the Ventura styling. Just out of curiosity-- does the sight window feather down to a knife edge on the belly side?

Yes, it does feather down to a feather edge. As far as a V or U, it looked like a V to me , but could be a U. I'll try A picture. so, if it feathers down to knife edge, what is it?

I'm pretty sure it's a "V" and it means Ventura styling, which was about as elegant as anything on the planet in the early Sixties, other than maybe Sophia Loren. It shows up on some Hunters, Hi-Speeds, Montereys, and of course Venturas. That feathered edge is the giveaway.

I've had Howatt Hunters with the same "V" and styling (I think they were from 1962 perhaps), but I don't know how many years they did them on the Hi-Speed... or if it may have been something you could ask for when ordering one. Anyway, they're some ol' nice!
