I'm going to the trad worlds this year with my wife and two boys. I see there are a couple hotels on 76 and more civilization and options farther north on 79. Any suggestions or recommendations to avoid? I'd like to keep cost as low as possible but don't want to stay in a flop house. With a couple of exceptions the chains can be hit or miss so looking for local knowledge. Thanks.

The last few times I went to the classic I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, not the cheapest but nice with a free breakfast.

The first few years we went we stayed at the Days Inn, old, not too clean and the "free" breakfast was a cup of coffee and a sweet roll, I wouldn't go back to that place. This was before they built the Holiday Inn and The Hampton Inn on the same exit.

Go to Twinoaksbowhunters.com, they have a list of motels on their site.

Exit 4 of I-24 W, has the most motels, various price ranges, but numerous eating establishments.

Try googling reviews for the area hotels. You can get comments from people that recently stayed there.

I appreciate the input guys. I was looking for firsthand knowledge of a place to either stay or even better, not to stay. I've stayed in my share of hotels and know firsthand that they can vary widely in the same chain depending on area, management whatever. Case in point, Microtel is not a high end hotel and the one in Clarksville lives down to that expectation according to reviews. I recently stayed at a Microtel in Florida that was exceptional for $54 per night. Not fancy, but recently refurbished, clean and hospitable with a nice pool etc. I was hoping that maybe someone who has, like Eric Krewson, actually stayed in the area could offer specific insight. I'd like to save money but if the Courtyard or Hampton is where I need to be for a clean room and a few decent amenities, so be it.

Longshot,

We just stayed at the Comfort Inn and Suites for the TN Classic this year. We enjoyed our stay very much. Found the hotel to be friendly and clean. Now, we did have a double room in order to accommodate our family, but I see no reason why a stay in any other room would be any less appealing.

Hope that helps with at least one recommendation from a recent stay.

Exit 11 is the closest. The hotels there are close and nice. You shouldn't spend much time there, other than to sleep anyway. If you want a higher end hotel then go to Exit 11. There are more restaurants etc. at Exit 4 but it is a tad bit further up the road. It's all easy. Please visit our site and see the list of hotels...I spent time gather that info...use it. ;-)

Miss Joanie and I road through exit 11 Sunday and it looks like all have been refurbished recently, I haven't stayed in any of them but if their is a problem I usually hear about it and I have heard none in the last year or 2. Pappy
