In an previous Viper date of manufacture thread, Larry Hatfield confirmed that one with serial number of 08213 was made in 2008. Its tough to generate much conflict with that!

From: Dean

Built in 2008, takes about a 61" string, fast-flite compatible, carbon on the back, bamboo cores, laminated handle, listed brace height 7" - 7 3/4", wieghs about 1 lb 8 oz, very fast bow!

Hope this helps, let us know if you have any other quesions!

Thanks....i was wondering what the "08240" actually means...

From: Dean

It's the serial number, first two digets are the year it was made. I believe it was the 240th Bamboo Viper made in 2008.

So when did Martin/Howatt change from just the first digit indicating the year of manufacture?

Ask Larry Hatfield, I think the second number is the bowyer, 8 being Larry himself. He can confirm or deny that. The zero I think is the year...probably 2010. I've been wrong before however. 8^)

It's amazing how many posts are made explaining how to read Martin Howatt serial #'s...and they all cannot be correct.

From: larryhatfield

it's a 2008.

Yes, and the more I think I know, the more I find out I don't. Sure glad Larry Hatfield is around.

Dating Howatt's is easy for many models but there are some that confound even the practiced eye.

The first number being the year of manufacture is accurate for many models after '61 but that also needs to be correlated with riser material, laminations and design. Good thing we have Larry.

Id like to say thank you to everyone who has contributed on this! Mr Hatfield especially!

Any clue as to what the 240 is anyone? (is Dean correct with it being the 240th one made?) Will the number tell me somehow who actually made the bow? Again THANKS!!!

From: larryhatfield
Date: 22-May-15

it is the 240th bow made that year. either chuck jones or me would have made it. i did most of them for a couple of years after we put them on the market.

Now I really want it.

Fantastic! Thank you very much Mr Hatfield!!! Both for your help and information and for building such a great bow! the possibility that you or Mr Jones may have (personally) made it makes it that much cooler!

So then (to anyone), along that line, would that mean my Vision (ML-12 0117) be: a) built in 2000 and the 117th one made?

or

b) built in 01 and the 17th one made? sorry for so many questions, i just find this so interesting and exciting! Thanks!!!

From: larryhatfield

the vision was 2000. before we started the two digit date prefix.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!! For all your help, expertise, and work! Thank You Mr Hatfield!
