Ha! Got you to open this thread!
I always liked the duel shelf bows. I have a few of the Bear Alaskan models and they are fun to shoot. They just have a balanced look and feel to them I like.
I am familiar with the several older models made by Pearson, bear etc. But I was wondering if anyone is still making or buying new versions of them?
I think is would nice to hear about any models you like or own. (new or old)
Any pro or cons about the performance of this style would great.
Pictures too!

I have two dual shelf bows...one is a Chek Mate Beaver Creek that I got as a blank with the specific idea of making it into a dual shelf...Marc, the bowyer, actually laid out for me where I needed to remove material to make it work...I am really not a very good woodworker but I have a shootable bow now and with many other bows not a lot of motivation to make it better...my other is a Maddog that I asked Mike to send me in semi finished form...the fact is that bow is perfectly usable the way I got it so once again I have not done a lot with it other than shoot it...Mike told me some time after he sent it to me that he spent quite a bit of time shaping both shelves so that it would shoot a properly spined arrow to the same point of impact...that is just the sort of thing you can expect from Mike...right now I am working on a deal that involves another 3 dual shelf bows, 1955 or 1956 Bear Kodiaks (hard to tell the difference)...I will post some pictures if I manage to pick them up

I have 2 old cubs, kodiak ll, an alaskan, and a second generation T-bird by Jay St. Charles. The Bears all shoot about the same and the T-ll launches rockets. I have a lot of fun shooting left handed every once in a while but have to laugh at myself every time I nock an arrow as a lefty. Good thread, Lance.

Until my polar delaminated I really liked the dual shelf on it. Since then I have been a little snake bit on buying older bows. I know they feel nice and shoot as good as the person bending the string, but it was a little nerve racking to have it come apart. Not sure if it counts but I have a Shakespeare Parabow that I shoot with either hand. Just takes a little softer spine on the left hand draw.

I assumed that this would be about someone shooting long bows AND recurves.

Very nice work there Bishotuwa!
Many folks who have them do not even shoot them from the other side. They just like the looks, feel or novelty of them. Makes perfect sense to me.

My buddy shoots a Chad Holm longbow that has dual shelves. Personally, I can't even pick my nose left handed!

Many people do not realize what may the biggest advantage of shooting both ways...you are working each side differently and I believe there is a huge conditioning value to that...plus right now I have a bit of a shoulder issue caused, I feel, by things other than shooting...that shoulder is sometimes not very effective in maintaining good follow through as a bow shoulder...it is perfectly effective as a draw shoulder

I've had a few over the years. Really like the lines and balanced look. About half of my selfbows are set up with dual shelves because you never know where they'll end up someday. I shoot right and have shot left handed just enough to know that I could if I had to.

I am a switch-hitter and keep my eyes out for a Bear Alaskan "Halloween" bow, 1958-60. They have that unique look and a fella could shoot whichever side the deer or other critter happens to be on.

Shooting a bow is the one and only thing I do left handed, although I do shoot right handed some too.
I have a dual shelf Green Mountain longbow.
