I was in Rite-Aid during lunch and ran across this. There is hope - non-video game related learning tools for our kids to use outdoors. Nice to see for a change. Its not great, but its a start.

And guess what... kids love that sort of thing and use it. At least at my house this 2-1/2 yr old grandson does. Skeet

I too think there is still hope for the younger crowd. I was at my local dealer yesterday negotiating about new wheels (truck, not a compound) and during my talk with the salesperson, discovered her eleven year old son is in to archery and trad to boot. Asked her how he became interested and turns out it was the Hunger Games movie. I was astounded. Going back to pick up my new pickup this morning and will be taking some hunting mags and a 3 Rivers catalog along to give her. Wish I had a bow that would fit him at his age to also pass along. Will suggest she bring him to our local trad shoot at Whittingham at the end of April if possible.

I bet there are some of those old yellow glass bows with the black plastic grips (that's what I had as a kid anyway), 25 - 30#, kicking around peoples attics and barns that could be dug out and given to kids that don't cost anything. Or even old Ben Pearsons or such. They may not be much to look at but I bet with a bit of 'instruction', kids would go for it. All they need is a bit of guidance, and they will follow suit like a pup. Start them young - they will be hooked. I was...

I re-read that - ha, little kids probably won't be pulling 25# !!! But any toy bow for the tykes will do, and then move them up to the real deal when they are 6 or 7. We can get these little gals and guys back into some quality play outside with a bit of leading...

Can't even venture a guess how many of those suction cuppy rigs I had as a kid. Gram would keep me armed from the 5 and dime "armory".
