Just wondering who prefers this type of handle design.Does it help much as far as accurate shooting goes?I've never shot one but I'm considering giving it a try.I have a few months to decide due to the back log.

I make and shoot both reverse handle and traditional handle straight-limb longbows. I have competed and hunted extensively with both. I find the reverse handle slightly more stable, but it's a small difference. If you like a bow quiver, you might consider a reverse handle. For me, a reverse handle with and without a bow quiver shoots about the same. With a standard handle, putting on a bow quiver changes the aim point and it will take a few days practice to adjust to the difference. Mechanically, there's no difference between a reverse handle bow and a reflex-reflex bow where the reflex is equal to the depth of the handle.

I like reverse handle bows,it makes it harder to torque the bow.Which I feel helps with accuracy.I have a reverse handle Fox longbow,JD Berry Taipan and a Thunder Mountain Coyote flatbow. All fine shooting bows! I did have a reverse handle Hill Wesley a few years ago also!

Spell check screwed me up. I meant to say, "Mechanically there is no difference between a reverse handle and a reflex-deflex bow where the deflex is equal to the handle depth.

There the only longbow I consistently shoot well. And I've tried them all. But this is only my experience.

But doesn't the reverse-grip cut a chunk out of the power stroke? Seems that you're essentially moving the limbs aft.
Makes sense that the stability would improve, but there's always a trade-off to be made....

My N.M. Whisper. It is, without a doubt, the quietest and most stable bow I own. I especially like it's fluid draw to anchor without the slightest feel of stacking. It LOVES heavy wood arrows.

I have a forward handle JD berry morningstar and I can say that the performance and stability of that bow just blows me away,it throws a arrow with unbelievable authority.

I have built a couple reverse handle bows. KYmoose has the first one I built, harvested his first longbow deer with it. Both have around 2" of reflex/backset and they are quick. With the plane of the limbs setting in the palm of the hand vs away from it, they are extremely stable.
I never understood why anyone would make a string follow, reverse handle bow. Stability is automatically built in -- crank it up.
Patterned mine kind of from a mid 1990's Black Swan, but with the shelf lower in the bow.

I just pick up a used Northern Mist Whisper. I like it.
I have had several longbows, r/d and straight Hill style bows and I just didn't shoot them very good.
Right now, I am shooting a Northern Mist Shelton and Whisper. If I had to choose one, I'd pick the Whisper.
As mentioned above, I think I torque the Whisper less.

Hal:I never understood why anyone would make a string follow, reverse handle bow. Stability is automatically built in -- crank it up. Using that logic you could say Recurves are so fast I just can't see why anyone would build a backset reverse handle bow. I build a string follow with a forward riser because I want to., I wanted to build something that people said could not be done efficiently and I have proven to myself and everyone that owns one of them that it is an extremely fast string follow bow if not the fastest one built.
BTW I also build a foreward riser backset bow but I am not determined to attack people that like string follows, or recurves, or hill style bows . Different people at different times like different things. If they all had to agree with me as to what is the perfect bow it would be a pretty dull world.
God bless, Steve

I've made several ASL style longbows with both the regular and reverse risers. They may look a little odd but I prefer shooting the reverse riser.

Sixby, there are also some really good bowyers that think Hill Style (ASL) bows have handshock.
JD Berry makes one, as well...people seem to like em. Berry's ASL bows both regular and reverse style are truly works of art, both in construction and function.
I thought John Shulz's reverse style longbows were about as ugly as they come. I think his had reflex in the limbs.
I am glad you like your design in reverse style longbows and your customers like em, as well.
I just don't think string follow is necessary in a reverse style longbow.
