A local sporting goods store got out of selling aluminum shafts a couple of years ago. He bundled up everything he had and donated all of it to our club. There must be over a thousand shafts.

We finally got around to sorting thru them tonight and it raised a couple of questions.

There are four categories of shafts in the pile. As far as I know XX78s (super slams)and XX75s have greater tensile strength than gamegetters. The fourth is one I'm not familiar with. It is the "eagle" category. Can anyone educate me on this type of shaft.

All of the Eagles I had were rather "soft"; they bent fairly easily. Much like the recent Stalkers. Just my experience, and probably due to poor aiming on my part.

Eagle's were a lower cost promo shaft. I do not remember the alloy though.

Your Gamegetters may be 6060 or 7075 (XX75) dpeneding on their age.

If i remember correctly the eagles were the lowest/bargan line, and had a lower tensil strength.

I've had some Easton eagles - they generally don't bend unless you shoot them. Well, actually sometimes they'll bend if you just look at them funny. They're pretty bendy...

Yes, the Gamegetter is solid green, is not of the XX75 alloy and bends easier than the others. The Superslam is X7 material...the hardest. The XX75 is the most popular of all aluminum alloys and the biggest seller. The Eagle is a softer alloy as well and will bend easier of course. They were all made for shooting and you got them for a good price. Use the cheaper ones for kids and beginners where you expect more misses. Also, there are different hardness scales of XX75 as well. I believe the 7075-T9 is the hardest, but not sure enough to bet money.

George, the Gamegetters wer upgraded to xx75 (mid 90's?)

I picked up about 8 or 9 Stalker shafts from a friend of mine in the 2219 size. Even with that thick wall I could not believe how easily the bend. I hand straighten arrows all the time, I bent one of the Stalkers went to straighen it, and it felt like a piece of piece of pipe cleaner it bent so easily. I think the Easton Eagle shafts had more stiffness than those. DANNY

XX78s were at least supposed to start out straighter, though I am not sure there were any points in the difference.
