I bought me a toy a month or so ago and have only tried it a few times.
You screw a plastic bottle onto it, pump it up to a little over 100psi, then shoot it. It makes one LOUD boom! Then get another bottle and do it again! It really makes you smile!
Anyone else play with one of these?

That sounds cool. It sounds like something my son would like as well. I will have to check it out.

So the first time I shot it, I used an aluminum 2213 arrow... the explosion broke it in half. Dang it!
My son shot several pressurized bottles with his Matthew's-Light-Speed-Super-Duper-Blistering-Arrow-Speed wheeled contraption and his arrows were fine. hmmm.....
So today, I tried it again, but this time with one of my GoldTip 3555's... (one of the 3 I used in today's First Shot)...
well... this is the result... blew all my fletching off and the nock as well! Good grief! Still sounded way cool though!!!
Shooting them with a pellet gun is pretty fun too! :)

I hide the little contraption behind something so I can't hit it. Otherwise I would hit it too!!!!!
It is amazing how nervous I am when I am trying to shoot it... it is almost like there is a real deer in front of me! haha

I'm having trouble imagining how the arrow velocity differential could be enough to make a difference here.... I wonder how many frames per second you need to go to in order to get a good look at it on video?
But if it's going to trash an arrow every time, maybe the thing to do is to shoot at it from as far out as possible. No need to march all the way out there to co firm a hit, anyway!

I wouldn't think the plastic bottle....especially the threaded part...would take 100 lbs. of pressure. I think it's more suited to air rifles! I sure wouldn't waste arrows on it!

The threads will take a lot of pressure. Don't ask how I know :)

Around here that much noise would wake the dead! Then I would have the posse at my door and maybe a real sheriff, would have to explain to Sheriff Joe. Maybe end up in pink jumpsuit!! But kidding aside, that looks fun, I have a bunch of wood arrows I could blow up as well.

Since we don't really have plastic bottles and ballons are cheap, we just shoot them. Not near the noise, but for my son, just as fun.

Use to make overgrown water bottle rockets out of 2 liter bottles got sketchy with high pressures, but I think up to 120psi you were pretty safe. If ya put water or corn starch in the bottle before pressurizing may give a little more stuff flying around too.

Not surprising that it's damaging your arrows. A friend of mine that works with bicycles said that some tubes are at 100psi, and if they blow they can damage aluminum rims.
Something else that's fun to shoot is blown up balloons and water balloons, especially if you can hang them. Everyone watching would cheer when one would pop.

Here in New Jersey, not only would Sheriff Joe be down on me but the entire state police. They tend to frown on this type of behavior. My son lives in Pennsy so might get one for him. Much more freedom across the river.

If you want to video it a GoPro Hero 3 can be set at 120 frames per second in 720P or WVGA That will provide slow motion viewing and can be slowed down even more with the GoPro editing software.

Aero - I expect that would be slow enough!
Probably pretty interesting to watch one of these filming with arrows of different speeds...
But the noise factor... Yeah. I suppose there's probably no specific ban on the types of noisemakers you can use, you might still qualify for disturbing the peace or some kind of reckless behavior, depending on where you are.
Still looks like a great long-range novelty shot, though.

those soda bottles used to hold 175# of air pressure, I know because we tried too blow them up with are air compresser. I put a standard tire valve stem into screw on top, we placed the 2litter out side he shop and filled it up, to are amazement it held. Then came the idea who's going to go get it. I finally did and took it home in the trunk, then shot it with a bb gun. Wow much lauder than the tires I tires I enjoyed hiper inflateing . It scares just think I held that bomb in my hand.

When we were kids we used balloons on a gentle breezy day, out in the freshly baled hay fields, as moving targets. Worked great, but you better not lose an arrow...farmers take a dim view of metal in cow's stomachs!!!
Wish I had known about judo points...lol.
