A few years back I got hold of a tanned buffalo hide and made a few quivers from it both back quivers and plains style...Made for an excellent quiver and unusual to boot...As luck would have it I got hold of another tanned buffalo hide with excellent winter hair...I see many quivers and pouches in this hide...

Are the quivers heavy?

I see flees possibly getting into it and varmits maybe laying there like that outside. LOL

I hope to get one myself one day so I can use it as a bed cover to keep me warm. LOL

Ron what does that coat wear?

I had a friend who slept with a Buffalo hide on his bead in the winter. He could hardly turn over it was so heavy.

I'm assuming you mean what does it weigh. I don't know but the wind and the rain will not go through it.

I have a brain tan robe also that I use for a sleeping robe. I'd never cut a buffalo hide up to make quivers, they're too nice as they are

I tanned this with chems from Vandykes for a wall hanger. Works well as a lap blanket on cold Colorado winter nights.

Pasq..The quivers can be a tad heavy depending on what part of the hide is used...The leather does vary in thickness...As far as a coat..I'd have no use for one and doubt I'd ever wear it...I'm sure the coat would weigh several pounds...

Rick, I never had the opportunity to make a quiver out of buff hide, however by request, I made an awsome vest for one of the Dodge Brothers! I used the short brown hair hide from over the rump area for the main body, and the darker wooly hair hide from the shoulders, in a western pattern over the shoulders of the vest! Used a sheep shearer to trim the wooly hair to blend in, what an awsome vest! I was promised, the material for my own vest however that never happened! I would be interested in some material to make a vest, hint, hint! Jacques

Heres a question if the hide was done by a tannery are those chems toxic and one would have to condider this if they were to use as a coat or blanket? Just thought of this maybe I don't want one for what I thought?

Cat has to be careful already used up a number of lives to date not sure just how many are left?

I'd like to know about the chems in tanning today?
