I've been off & on with recurves, and with springtime here,I'm getting the bug again. I sold off a lot of my stuff, so I'm shopping for a new bow.

In the past, I've had a lot of bows, from beginners rigs, a Samick, self bows, vintage, bolt-down warf style, a Hoyt Gamemaster II, most recently a Tradtech Pinnacle.

My frugal mind says just get a Sage, in case I quit again. My trad-style side says make up some woodies, and get a once-piece recurve like a Howatt Hunter.

And my techie/performance mind says, get modern, spend the money on a Hoyt Tiburon and some good arrows.

Thoughts? and no, I won't buy one of each!

I try to refrain from suggestions except for bows that fit. Nothing worse than having someone else pick your bow out for you. It's a sure way to be starting over again next year.

Now, if it were me, and I was in that state of confusion, I would buy a cheap used bow or a Sage, or some type, just to make sure it was real this time. Let the "techie" in you go play on the computer while the frugal you makes a choice. 8^).

Welcome back to TRAD!

You didn't say how tall you are or draw lenght, but I think I'd get a Bear Grizzly to start with. Not a lot of money, not as cheap as a Sage, but VERY traditional & the ones I've shot shoot really well. I hunted with one two years ago & they are nice bows. Good luck on your search! Let us know what you get,

The choice is yours brother...run with it and enjoy.

I'm kinda in the same boat. Disgusted with my state's CWD scare tactics and subsequent deer slaughter I "hung it up" 10 years ago. , 8 years later, with my son's urging, I felt re energized and got back in. Needing to drop down a bit in poundage I went in search for a new toy. After much research I was real intrigued with a previously unknown bowyer, Whippen Stick.

After reading posts and viewing pics here and elsewhere...I started exchanging PM's with some of you fellas, and found a new friend in Canada...eh. :^)

This gent is a friend of Ken's from W.S. and directed me there...whereby I ordered my first true custom bow, his 60" Phoenix. I expect a call from Ken about any time, and am "kid at Christmas" juiced...lol.

I'd forgotten the pure pleasure of archery and am very happy to be back.

Which one do you really want? That's the one I would go with....and of the 3 you mentioned, Howatt Hunter

Buy a Sage and make up some woodies!

Type or brand of bow doesn't make much difference, but get it in a relatively low poundage so it won't be a chore to shoot. Put your money in good arrows.

I've gone through 12 bows in the last 6 months and I'm not a collector..just experimenting with what feels right and shoots where I'm pointing. Based on playing with all sorts of bows, I'd avoid a short, "magnum" bow to start off, as seeing your accuracy and consistency improve will keep you interested and practicing, and short bows require established form and skill to shoot accurately (then they are a real hoot!). I'd also look for an affordable bow so you wont skimp on arrows.

I've gone through a lot of bows finding out what works for me. I'm a rarity I guess, couldn't stand a grizzly but love the Kodiak magnums. A lot of people love the grizzly for good reason. It's a quality bow that fits most archers well. Just not me. I have traded and bought a lot of bows however I started with a samick sage.the sage is a fine bow and I owe my biggest buck harvest to one. I'll never trade or sell that bow! It's gonna turn into the bow I use to get my compound buddies hooked!

Find a place you can shoot the bows your interested in and decide for yourself.research like crazy
