I picked up a new bow yesterday at a great price from a fellow I helped out. I was free!
It was a Damon Howett Hunter in super condition.
The interesting thing is it has a name on it that was done at the factory. The name is under the original factory finish and in the same handwritten script as the worker who wrote on the bow specs.
My guess it was a special order. My two questions are. Can someone tell me the year the bow was made and does anyone know ED HIGGINS. :)
(Hope to show 3 phone pics in the next posts)

That would be nice if it were the bowyer. I didn't think of that.

PM Larry. If you would have said Howatt in the title, he probably would automatically look in.

The first 8 in the serial number is the last digit of the year...my first guess would be 2008 but it could also be 1998...I often say everyone should have at least one HH...the fact it is marked 52 pounds lends credibility to the special order theory...they are normally just marked to the nearest 5 pounds

Just checked out the 2008 catalog and the riser ought to be black dyed birch and bubinga which that one is obviously not...on the other hand if it came from the Custom Shop it would likely be other woods anyway...seems like in addition to the price being right you may also have a one-off bow

Thanks for checking up on that camodave.
There was no need to put Howett in the title George. I was not thinking bowyer until gluetrap brought it up. And I did PM Larry right after that.
The word HUNTER under the logo is hand written. Were they not silk screened with block letters? Or just some years?

Don't know when Larry left for sure but he would be the one to answer that question. Anyway, it is a 2000's decade bow.

I have a '97 Super Diablo with the clear glass and red elm limbs and similar riser. See attached. The number begins with a "7"
I've also attached a picture of a Hunter (not mine) with the aforementioned birch and bubinga riser. It has a first number of 5.
I would say the script on both bows was done by the same person.
Comparing the two your bow has an identical riser design but different wood. This illustrates why Howatt's after 1995 can be tricky...the wood can throw you off. I would say it's a 2008 but it looks a lot like the wood in the Super D.
I also have a custom Mamba with a two wood riser but the layout is different and the writing is also very different. It has no labels on it.
It's very nice no matter when it was built!

Mamba nomenclature...that's all that's on this bow. It had a crack in the rest from the factory but some shots of Loctite 420 cured that forever.

looks like a 2008 from the pics. it was not a particularly special order. we wrote on bows and did custom grips etc. on bows every day if thats what the customer wanted. never charged for that either.

That's something I did not know Larry (about the grips and writing.) Who did that writing?
When do you think the Mamba was built Larry? That's all that's on it. The grip and whole riser was much slimmer than my '86 Mamba.

i do not remembe rwhen we built those bows. it was something the youngest martin asked us to do. we only made them for one year.they were in the 2000's for sure. we did the hunter that way too. i tend to forget about wrecks i could see coming but could not stop.

Thanks for checking in Larry. This is the first HUNTER I got to admire up close. Looking forward to shooting her soon. My max for shooting right handed bows has been 50# up until now. Looks like I will be bumping it up 52# real soon. :)
I just noticed how different the colors look in my first two pictures. Will try to post a few more when I can so they show up right. Its sweet for sure.
BTW, I got some PMs with tips about a fellow name ED HIGGINS who was on this sight 10 to 15 years ago. Any help with that would be nice. Maybe I could host a reunion of the "...one he would love to get back" :)

Here it is next to an older DH High Speed for color reference.
Also another PM I received thought a waller with the handle "greenarrow" might be the guy whos name is on the bow.
