How do you fellow leather wallers rate Great northern Bows. Iam especially interested in the ghost or bush bow.How about some pics!

I have a ghost and it is a very fast and nice bow. The one I got was in the Mid 70s at a time when I was just going over the Hill from those weights, so I never really shot it that much. Sorta like buying a pair of pants that is nearly the perfect size thinking that one will surely loose that last ounce of weight, only to put on ten...

I have wanted a Bushbow almost since they came out (or the Elburgh flatbow), but with my draw length I have never found one at a decent price. Flatbows are cool, but guys can make real longbows that are that short, so what is the point. Also Hybrids came out and blew most flatbows out of the commercial market, even though they are a completely different animal that isn't a longbow by any measure. LBs have certain practical advantages that recurves don't have (as recurves do to LBs) So if you live in an area that requires an unstrung bow out of shooting time, or like the fact that you can string a bow by hand (this is sooner or later going to bite) if you forget your or loose a stringer, etc... There are several handling advantages of this type to LBs, then at the short end, Hybrids have obviously won.

Fantastic Bows! And an even better Man to deal with. Jerry Brumm is a special bowyer. I picked up a new to me Critter Gitter Special (which Jerry is not making any more) and called him to get some information on the bow - He talked with me like we were old friends and I had never met the man. If you ever get a chance to jump on a Critter Gitter - Do it! You won't be sorry. Such a simple design yet an amazing beautiful one. They are in my opinion everything a longbow should be and nothing it shouldn't be. Mine is 58" and is marked 58# @ 28. All Osage with a actionwood limb core. To me, it is the perfect hunting bow. Check it out:

I owned a little creep, 58inches 53 pounds. Great bow, just wasn't for me. I think I would enjoy one of his 60 inch longbows. My creep had the green action wood and green glass. Very pretty bow. All in all I say they are well crafted and good looking.

I shoot one of their Field Bows, one of the best bows for the money.

I should have also said Rick Shepard,he and Jerry were together for a long time building bows.I have had every model GN made and have liked them all.

I have 4 Great Northerns, 2 recurves and 2 longbows, all great shooters and beautifully crafted. My most recent, a 64" Bushbow is absolutely first rate. Jerry and Rick are great guys too. Go ahead, you won't regret it.

Another pic for you showing how these bows brace to a nice "D" shape. And at great risk of embarrassing myself, here is a link to me shooting this Gitter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ni3n1RAT1c

If you do find a good buy on a used one, one thing to know is Jerry and Rick mark the serial number starting by month and year. For example, my Gitter's serial number start with 0297 so that means it was made in Feb of 97.

These are just plain Outstanding bows!

Started with a Bushbow that had sassafras limbs and two years later bought a Ghost with osage limbs. "Bear" and "Elf" are a couple of the best. I also own one of their feather grinders and a couple of the quivers they made.

I've got 6 of them at the house here, wonderful bows. Built by one of the best in the business, in my opinion.

Just got a Super Ghost from Jerry. I have been shooting heavier mass weight bows and did not know how well I would get along with one of such light weight mass. Belive me it is not a problem and such a pleasure to shoot. Jerry in my opinion makes a finely crafted bow and as others have said is a great guy to talk to. Don't think you would go wrong trying one.

Don't think you will get many negative comments on the GN bows. Simple, beautiful shooters with great craftsmanship. They've been around a while because they are a quality outfit.

Pretty much what everyone said. I've had the Bushbow, Fieldbow, and currently the Little Creep. Fine bows.

Well, I must agree! Jerry's bow are one of the best made hand crafted bows that are built today. I own the Bushbow with snake skins and the Traditional Longbow both with straight grips and the Jack knife system. They are sweet! Jim :>)

Have a Bushbow also. Feels so good in the hand it's difficult to put down. Also have 20 other bows but this one is special. John

My 1st recurve was a superghost.I like the steamlined design.

I have had a bushbow and they pull smooth with thier wide limbs and are very quiet.

I also had a few Critter gitters and really like them.Superb Mild R&D longbow

The traditional longbow is also very nice and one of the best Hill style bows around.Mine had all osage limbs and shot great.I hear the all bamboo limbs shoot a little smoother and with a tad less thump.

Thier extremely well made bows with an understated elegance.

I read your post with particular interest m ckr as I have a critter gitter much the same as yours except mine is 65@64in I don't shoot it any more as it is now too stiff for me. I would list it in the classifieds but I am leary of the possible hassles of doing so,esp as I am in Canada. Yes,they are great bows made by good people.Rick Sheppards wife,Chris, used to do leatherwork.I still have a side quiver and arm guard which she made for me. Sandy

I have a Traditional bow. 68" 46@28. Great shooter and the workmanship is second to none. My only complaint is the grip is a rounded, palm swell type. Just doesn't fit my hand right. Butch

I've loved GN bows for years. If I had to go to war or my life depended on a bow it would be my 64" Bushbow. I've kllled more animals with a GN than any bow. It's a true hunting how; simple and instinctively shoots where you look in the heat of the moment. Jerry Brumm is a friend and one of the best!

I have a Fireball and a Bushbow. The Fireball is my main hunting bow and I have taken multiple deer with it. Great Northerns are worth every penny in my opinion.

Thanks guys.I talked to Jerry yesterday and I'm thinking of going with the Ghost, because I'm partial to the Recurve Bow.I think it would be smoother and faster?

The Ghost with be a worthy bow for you and make a fine hunting weapon.

Love my GN bows; the Jackknife Lil Creep is my favorite.
