It occurred to me that we have threads going on about this up coming shoot, but under a different title, so, to get the word out proper, here we go. April 10,11,12, 2015, Kentucky Traditional Bowhunters Association will be hosting its 5th annual "KyTradFest" This is a 40 target 3-D shoot, $20 fun shoot $25 competition, score first round, then shoot for fun unlimited rounds the rest of the weekend ! Also is a ten target "smoker round", and several novelties including aireal shoot, longshot, and running boar. Camping onsite free and unlimited, but primitive, porta johns on site. RV's welcome, but no hookups. Firewood provided at no cost. Campers and vendors may arrive on Thursday. Vendor setup is free. Food vendor on site providing meals all weekend ,all day, including breakfast. Saturday night live bluegrass music, blanket trade, Potluck feast, raffle drawings and guest speaker Marv Clynke ! Folks this is an enjoyable, laid back, inexpensive weekend outing for the family. Unruly, disturbing, or in any way misbehaving pets will be eaten ate the Saturday night feast ! location is Mercer County Fish and Game Farm 250 Whites Lane, Harrodsburg, KY 40330. Easily found 5 miles west of Harrodsburg on US#68 Food and accomodations available in Harrodsburg and Danville, a short 15 minute drive away. Need more info contact Randy Grider at 859-748-6200 or if no answer cell 859-209-1755

I realize this is redundant, but keep getting referenced to another shoot, that is in no way connected to the "KyTradFest". I too miss the old Kentucky Klassic, but this is a different shoot, location, targets, and club.

Its in the heart of the Bluegrass region of KY, good folks for sure, other scenic attractions nearby if you are interested in making a family vacation of it. Old Fort Harrod, Bueamont Inn, Shakertown, Perryville Battlefield, lots of history close by. I drove at least that far going to Florida for the spring shoot, but of course I was more motivated, we had a snowstorm moving in when I left ! LOL

Big Jim, after last year your comment about rain or shine really rings true! That monsoon still didn't dampen the fun any. I can't wait for another TradFest! Great event and great Kentucky folks--my home state even though I have been away from there for many years. Still feels like home.

chances of rain all week, but scattered showers, and not showing a lot, so lets keep our fingers crossed. Just to be on the safe side..., if you got 4 wheel drive, bring it. If you got rubber boots..., Bring it ! If ya got chains, towstraps.... Bring it ! LOL. We do have a plan this year, get a load of straw, and have a tractor on site, with a full time driver. These are precautionary plans, after all, I did promise we would not have mud !!!

I have one super duty strap this year and a couple of clevises. I also bough a new 17,500 lb winch for the truck, but do you think I have had time to build a new bumper? NO...and we have already been stuck at one event.
Anyway, mud or no mud, we will be there bigger than ever...not me personally but bigger trailer, bigger tent, bigger attitude...whoops, should have left that last one out.
Ya'll thinking about going to the Tradfest? If you are on the bubble, roll over to the side that says yes!
What sets events like this apart from others is the can do attitude. Lots of people there to help and no griping about the work. They genuinely appreciate the turnout and despite the fact that I'm sure they have plenty of things to do at the house seem to enjoy working during the shoot.
Too often we hear of clubs where only a few guys do all the work and this shows during the shoots. If that happens here, you'll not know it. We attend 15 shoots a year and while I enjoy every one, there are certain shoots that just seem to be more inviting....and a little...or a lot of mud won't keep me away :)
Actually there is a lot of talk and joking about the mud, but last year is the only year I recall seeing Ky mud.
If anyone wants me to bring something from the shop we wouldn't normally bring (bow building materials) you need to let us know before Wednesday as we leave early afternoon on that day. Might even bring some mud just in case we don't have any in KY.
See ya soon, bigjim

Don't forget the 2nd annual Kentucky Tradfest Campfire Cookoff on Saturday night. Be sure and bring your best dish for everyone to enjoy and vote on. Herwaybow is the sponsor for this event and the winner will receive a plaque and 100 Tradbucks to be used at any of the 2015 Tradfest vendors. We had a great turnout last year and expect and even better one this year. The winner will be chosen by popular vote during the meal. We look forward to tasting your best campfire dishes.

We just made our reservations and 5 of us will be there Friday afternoon. We have to pick the daughter up from IU on the way.
Looking forward to it

I set the targets today, while the trails were dry. With any luck we can dodge this rain, regardless the show will go on ! We have a lrge party tent, and a big porch on the clubhouse, plus all the vendors have tents so we will make do even if it does rain. Ill try and get some pics of the course tomorrow to post on here.

Last year the pond level raised overnight and one of the crocagators escaped. I found it cruising the back of the pond near the cattails. I'm pretty sure the meal plan was to wait on Brutus Hedgeapple. Fortunately Brutus was made aware of the escapee's presence when he arrived at campsite and turned the table, capturing the beast later in the day as the stalk was attempted.
