Hi there.

I am looking for a source for sheets of adhesive plastic to use on a take-down recurve riser to prevent the usual noise that can occur.

I know guys use various materials for this purpose, but I like the material used by Don Assenheimer. It is just thick enough to be durable, doesn't hold water, is slick, and holds up well.

Thanks for any ideas you can share.

Best wishes.

Don't know how thick you need it to be but some ideas are:Tupperware Lid,maybe take a Glass Cleaner bottle and cut pieces to fit, sheets of cork or anything plastic that might be the right thickness for you.

craft stores carry adhesive backed plastic sheets. I bought some a Michaels.

I found cutting sections out of a plastic milk jug to work very well.

Rich - thanks for the sources right around the house. Some of those might just work.

Dennis - you must know what I am seeking. I am not familiar with a Michaels store. What is it? We have a big sewing and craft store in the city. I will check there.

Plywood bender - that sounds like a good method, but I have a severe dairy allergy, and wife doesn't drink it. So, I will have to ask a friend to save a couple jugs.

Thanks, and best wishes.

You might ask them for a sample size.

UHMW is that plastic they use in those white plastic cutting boards. So slick and hard, it was originally thought to be unbondable. I first heard about it on drift boats, the PSA version. It just tapes on, the boat slides over everything, and it doesn't come off even underwater.

Another option might be PSA pickguards, either clear, or in colours.

Trick to applying these sheet materials if the glue and the surface are waterproof enough for a damp sponge, is you wet the surface, move the material you have around until you get it where you want it. There will be bubbles trapped under the plastic. Take a credit card and work the bubbles out from the centre to the edges. Since there is water in there they will squeeze out, leaving you with a perfect job that only seizes when you get the water squeegeed out.

In many places they sell orange juice in the same kind of milk bottles, or weird stuff like soy milk. But I would probably use one of the other products.

Just one more thing you might try and I have used it for knife spacers is Binders the kids use for school, many different colors to choose from.

Matt, Michael's is a craft store like you described, they carry the same kind of stuff.

Rich, I love the binder idea for spacers in Knife handles. That beats buying high priced phenolic for something that doesn't really bare any weight.

Thank you
