That's spot on...raise yer arm, and the hand will be at that natural angle. "Don't" is not. You can feel it in your elbow...and I think it gets in the way...just me.
I also have the tendancy to heel torque the grip with "don't".
I shoot with my natural...ergonomic (?)...body mechanics, or "cant"...but I "don't". :^)
I also prefer a wrist sling and shoot with an open hand...but now grip with thumb and pointer finger only.

Roadrunner; Chartreuse should solely be confined to the drawing hand!
For the bowhand the socially acceptable nail polish is Crushed Strawberry; or in the limit Limpet Lemon.

If you overlay your target with Reseau Marks, such that the orientation of the marks are identical to your angle of cant inclination, then you can happily tune with a cant.
If you are unable to employ the Reseau Marks, then basically you can’t cant.

Day before yesterday while rabbit hunting with some friends I noticed that my nephew was drawing down on a rabbit while standing in waist high brush. He canted the bow in the opposite direction of normal so the bow limbs would clear and made the shot. Got the rabbit. I mentioned the reverse cant and he didn't even realize he had shot that way. I guess he gets the fingernail polish.

It's a joke, but with a point folks.
So many folks espouse the belief, that how your hand is rotated is an absolute on how your bow is rotated. That just ain't so.
Jimmy B. said it here - "But the example is flawed. Your hand can be at 45 degrees (canted hand) yet the bow still straight."
Anyway, I sure hope it didn't cause any of you to have to double up on your blood pressure medication.

Not Me. I am Olympic vertical all the way. Feet apart, closed stance. Solid. Maximum completion elbow pointing back shoulder muscles closing toward one another.
I feel I must first acknowledge something because I just know someone will throw it back at me.
I know I know that rookie over-curling the fingers rolls the arrow off of the shelf. I know I know I know.
but
sometimes, even with veteran training and that problem eliminated , there will be times that arrow will fall off. I suspect this at least PARTLY is reason some cant.
The Hoyt Super Rest solves all that .

I shoot with the bow rotated in my hand a little as was mentioned... a little. Most wouldn't even notice it. I also cant the bow a little as my 'norm' but practice all angles and body positions and have shot and killed deer with my bow almost completely horizontal while knelt as low to the ground as I could get. As a bow-weilding predator, versatility is key.

Jakemt, “Because the fumes from all that nail polish are going to your head?”.
Thanks for that very amusing and perspicacious observation.
However, with respect; Do keep up!
“Fullers Fulminating De-fumigating Fingernail Polish For Fletching Flyers" has been on the market since 1863!
Even “Silly Ali from the Valley” could have given you that beauty tip.
Lars Andersen has been adamantly endorsing this excellent product since way back last Friday.
On a more serious note researchers at MIT have reported findings that demonstrate a correlation between finger polish shooters and a weak spine. Results also show the Au Nautral approach consistently return a greater accuracy one would expect from a decent chap. Pinky position appears to have no detrimental effects. So Pinky Position is down to Personal Preference.

"Actually, in order to shoot a bow completely vertically, torque must be applied to change from the natural neutral position of the arm, shoulder, and wrist."
FA
Actually the torque free (bow hand torque, not arm load you are referring to), is with the knuckles pretty close to 45 degrees, the arm is neutral, and the bow grip lies on a line roughly on the crease to the finger side of the base of the thumb. In this position the bow can be straight up and down, or you can cant it if you wish. It is neutral.
So no, to hold a bow vertical with any grip low to high, does not torque the arm. I shoot with slight cant, but probably wouldn't if I was set up for tournament archery.

Rick, great NCIS work here.
You have illustrated a highly polished performance from Bldtrailer.
HCorrigal “Seems like he could cut his arrows in half and have twice as many as he only seems to use half??”.
Hector, we must view this from a different perspective, the longer the arrow the shorter the distance to the target; ergo improved accuracy, as is clearly demonstrated in “seems to work 4 me”. So the validity of the cant can’t be ignored or can’t be dismissed.
Thanks for your kind words Stykman, but my veracity is not always 100%. But I’m sure you recognise that ?:)

Very slight cant, if any, allows face to be more facing target, and allows me to full draw. Now my groups are tight and I can remove the fance colored nail polish...... and thong panties.

Ever try to shoot a longbow from a ground blind without canting? Or when sitting on the ground? Regardless of your preference, you may have to cant sometimes, so you had better practice that way at least part of the time.
I shoot both ways but prefer no cant when I can. When I can't, I cant.
