Being a hunter for 20+ years I wanted to give traditional archery a try in 2013. I was instantly hooked but knew next to nothing about what bows might work for my long draw. After a few complete failures I was able to get in touch with some guys that got me pointed in the right direction.

After meeting with a serious Bear collector I was able to handle dozens of his hundreds of bows including his original one owner '59 Kodiak 64" that he got as a teen. I loved the look and grip, that was the one. Being that you can't get a new one that long, custom was my option.

I got a hold of Scott and he was great to deal with, letting me know what woods would be good choices as I was coming from a guitars players impression of what I liked for woods.

After looking at decades of bears I wanted a certain look and Scott's bow was exactly what I wanted. I hand picked my window and veneers and with his recommendation of a Cocobolo riser here is the finished bow.

1959 Grayling Classic, 49#'s @ 31" , Curly Koa limbs and sight window, lowered shelf, and the cap and tips are copied from a 1960 Kodiak Special Deluxe. It is much better looking than the pics. The way the sun shows depth and fire is nuts, the whole bow changes color from a bright shimmering gold to a rich tiger striped brown depending on the viewing angle. I'm not done tuning it yet but I shoots where I look and hits hard. With a 485grn (10gpp) arrow it is between 180and 182 fps. The level of craftsmanship in this bow is so over the top it's hard to believe until you see one in person. It is perfection!

I like the 64" 59ers alot.Good to see someone is making the a replica of the 64 inch 59er.It works alot better IMO than the 60" for guys with longer draws.beautiful bow!

Mine is a 60", but still super smooth at my 29" draw. Can't say enough about this bow!

That may be the most beautiful bow I've seen. period. Been doing this trad thing for close to 40 years now and even make my own bows. Presently using a homemade bow copied from a 62 Bear Kodiak. Love my bow made from spalted maple. BUT if I didn't make my own I think I'd be calling VW and placing a order! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the compliments. Now I need to lay the coals onto practice with this new stick b/c even though I've got snow on still, those longbeards will be making some noise before long. It's a lot flatter shooting than my hybrid longbow so hopefully it will help me connect this spring.

Awesome bows! What's the wait time? And what's the price range?

Fantastic. Love that wood combo.

Jay B: I got mine second hand, but I believe his wait time is around 12 months, last I checked. He is a one man operation with great attention to detail, obviously, so takes a while. Thundermtn: Yes, everytime I hand my bow to someone to try, the first thing I say is, "AIM LOW!" Lol

My wait was 17 months but I'm pretty certain that it would have been shorter if I would have stayed with woods he had in house. The sight window block I sent in wasn't as dry as it needed to be. I also had a really nice piece of burl desert ironwood as well but when I found that Koa and was thinking of not sending it and using it in another project I knew I had the right piece. 64" start at $675 I think, and you can do a lot of stuff to them option wise. I had a lot of ideas in my head about my next one with different wood combos but after seeing how nice this one turned out if I ordered another I'd probably option it with the same wood and trim a have a matched pair.

woodshavins; No joke. It sinks an arrow. I gap shoot mostly, @20 this bow has rougly the same gap @12 as my hybrid
