New to me from Vintage Works Bows of Colorado. Scott Reed the bowyer and I came up with this bow together 3 years ago while trying to dial one up for me.

The wood combo choices where so vast in his offerings, I let him decide. I had sent hims some choice stock from my collection of wood 5 years ago, and had mad e a bow for me then fom it. He now took the remainder of the Goncalo Alves (tigerwood) i had sent him and created this "Droptineous Erectus" bow.

I chose the model (1964 Bear Kodiak replica), and gave him full artistic license.

All I can say when i opened the box.... my jaw dropped. Just outstanding!!!! Especially the Red phenolic bordering the riser for strength.. Genius.

Stunning!! I've tried to get on his wait-list, but can never contact anyone?? I gave up awhile back, but this bow makes me question my decision.

I like that bow very much! It's much nicer looking than anything I have seen for new "Bear Replicas" The only other bow that I could remotely compare it to for visual pleasure is Ed Holcombs 60 Kodiak De Luxe Very nice bow! Congrats

WOW. Now that is beautiful drop, Scott did an incredable job.

Thanks guys. I have always loved the old bows with white glass. It just gives a classic look to it. I had it made with 3D in mind. I doubt it will ever see the treestand looking this nice. I laid it on the kitchen table.. my wife walkd by and did not say a thing. later while watching TV.. she say's "so... when where you going to tell me you got a new bow?,.. It is really beautiful!"

For my wife to take notice?.. I was floored. She has seen so many in the house over the last 26 years I actually thought she never paid attention anymore..LOL

I think it will like Aluminum arrows better than Gold tips. or Microflites.... at 58" and with phenolic riser outline making it real stiff in hand.... the limbs are very "active". the bow is quite sensative to form, release, and arrow combos.

Mine showed up yesterday and I had the same reaction you did. My un-boxing was along the lines of what the Dad in the movie "A Christmas Story" said when he opens his major award.

I really like the snakewood cap on yours. I figured this was a snow bow for late season, white glass looks really nice and the window is nuts.

Shane, it may look nicer than Bear reproductions, but it is not a Bear reproduction, and it's custom chosen woods. I love the new Bear bows....they look like old Bear bows, for the most part. Vintage makes "hybrids" at the customer's resquest. Beautiful yes, Bear no.

From: Thundermtn
Date: 26-Feb-15

The new bear factory bows aren't reproductions either though. They aren't using the same woods or color of glass and the grip wraps on the new ones are a joke.

A real beauty! What's the draw weight? That bow has late season deer written all over it.

From: Andy Man

absolutely beautiful

bet it is even better looking in person

From: Kwikdraw

I'm curious about the "fumed Lacewood".... More pics and a description of exactly what that is would be great....

From: Chemsolder1
Date: 26-Feb-15

Pretty for sure.

From: Thundermtn
Date: 26-Feb-15

They take a lacewood veneer and vacum/pressure treat it with a powerful ammonia vapor that darkens the wood, but the wood needs to have a decent level of tannins to bea good candidate.

Outstanding! That white glass sure makes for a very unique and pretty bow. I read about a Super Kodiak Fred Bear had made with white glass to go Polar Bear hunting. Reminded me of that bow and story.

Very cool, thanks for sharing!

My Vintage Works '59 is one of my top two recurves I've ever owned. Not only is the workmanship stunning, but man does it shoot! They are NOT just bow rack princesses;-)

My hunting bow is a LH 62' Kodiak "hybrid" in Shedua with gray glass and a Redheart sight window, black and white overlays.

Since I switched to shooting lefty 46-48# is my perfect weight. It will tear up some deer and foam with ease.

This one is 47# x 58" at 28" draw.

The new Bears are great as well. I love my 59'

Did you replace the leather grip on the '59?

Yes. I have some old stained leather that resembles the original stuff, skived it and installed. Much better. It is such a labor intensive event There is no way bear could do em like that anymore with the numbers they are producing.

Here is a Missaukee Deerslayer i have in white glass on the back and 1965 green glass on the face.

From: Tom McCool

Wow! The grain in that 3rd picture looks like its all running back into the deepest part of the grip by design. A real work of art. Enjoy!

From: kodiaklectomy Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

when I bought that bolt of Tigerwood several years ago it was pretty non-descript.. the end grain told the story (wink).

I just bought some Zircote and Macassar Ebony that will blow your mind.

Beautiful tips and love the white glass. Better keep her locked up tight Rich, I know where you live! On second thought, with it cut on the wrong side I could only look at it. :) You have to bring that baby to the BBTC in May.

From: RymanCat

Rich I like the compass he did a beautiful job. I would love to see this in person maybe at Baltimore if I can get there this year.

I love the white glass as well it looks real classy on any bow I seen have it. I have a couple bows with white glass and they really stand out.

Drop is right try to keep this thread clean and void of things other than praise for this bow. If you can't do it then try not to post on.

Scott is a fine craftsman and any VW I had all shot very well. I bet this shoots great for you also.

Gorgeous bow!

I am on the waiting list. Not sure when I will get the call but at least another 6 months.

I am leaning toward the 59 Kodiak Hybrid.

Thanks for sharing the pics!

From: M60gunner

You really have a looker there. Of course the gloss finish really brings out the grain of the woods. It also takes more prep work than a dull "hunting" finish. You know when it takes forever to get on a makers list his work is above and beyond.

Wow what a great looking bow! I personally LOVE the compass! Actually love everything about it! Congrats!
