I'm in RI. Is there camping? Event flier?

From: DanaC
Date: 07-Feb-15

No flier, but you can camp on the property. Plenty of room, we'll have the club house open and we'll be serving meals Saturday and Sunday (breakfast Sunday.)

From: Nick B
Date: 08-Feb-15

Thanks Dana,

Sans flier, a few more questions:

(1) Just show up, or is there pre-registration? (2) Cost? (3) Any activities for the kids? (My little archers are 6, 9, & 11) (4) What time should people arrive on the 20th? (5) For New Englanders driving a distance, would they be allowed to camp over Fri-Sat?

Nick

From: DanaC
Date: 08-Feb-15

Don't think pre-registration is required; Not sure on cost yet; We'll have novelty shoots and hopefully some kids archery stuff. There is also some neat stuff to see nearby - the fish hatchery and Quabbin Reservoir - scenic views, picnic areas.

Camping Friday and Saturday evenings is fine.

From: marc
Date: 08-Feb-15

Figures! I won't be back from ft. Bragg until the 20th.

From: grouseshooter002 Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 08-Feb-15

Dana, Do you have to be a IBO member and if so what is the cost of membership? Thank you.

Rick

From: DanaC
Date: 08-Feb-15

Pretty sure you do not have to be a member.

From: Hal9000
Date: 08-Feb-15

Will it be required to shoot IBO speeds? :)

From: blue monday Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 09-Feb-15

You don't have to be a member to shoot at this shoot it is all about having fun. There is camping as well.

From: DanaC
Date: 09-Feb-15

Hi, Rob, thanks for chiming in ! Bob G. tells me you're on this 'team'; as soon as the snow melts a *little* I'll be thinking straighter ;-)

From: spike78

From: wickedsticks
Date: 10-Feb-15

Neat! I'll try to make it and bring these "friends" along in case someone would like to try shooting any of them.

From: DanaC
Date: 10-Feb-15

That's a bunch of beauties!

From: wickedsticks
Date: 11-Feb-15

Dana can you give me the address there or directions. Thanks

From: DanaC
Date: 11-Feb-15

The club is easily accessed from either rte 9 or rte 181 in Belchertown Mass.

From: DanaC
Date: 12-Feb-15

Just talked to the IBO coordinator, this shoot will -not- be a qualifier shoot, strictly fun. (That might change for 2016, but for this year, simply a get-together.)

We're looking at several novelty shoots, as well as a full 30-target 3D course. And anybody who wants to bring 'swap'items is most welcome to do so.

Dana, should I remove the IBO portion from my web site? Jawge

From: DanaC

Jawge, it's still IBO 'sponsored', so I'd say leave it. Thanks.

Anyone here shooting the IBO in Connecticut this weekend?

From: Shafted
Date: 24-Apr-15

I just returned to Maine yesterday... from Connecticut.... Wow! What a beautiful state. I took the boy down to the Mystic Aquarium, and drove mostly back roads north up into and through western Mass. Being from rural Maine, often when people mention Mass or Conn, I think of Boston or Hartford, concrete, welfare and crime. Rural Conn and Mass are gorgeous, and appear perfect for bow hunting. What a nice scenic drive! I may have to schedule a trip down to Mass this June and fling some arrows. Sounds like fun!

Can anyone recommend a campground close by for tent camping?

From: DanaC
Date: 19-May-15

You can camp right on the property, plenty of room.

From: TrapperKayak
Date: 19-May-15

Crookedstix, nice collection. What's that fourth one down - Bear what? Wish I could make this event, but gonna be in England, instead of New England...

From: DanaC
Date: 20-May-15

Walked the trails this morning, did some branch clearing and flagging. In good shape as long as we don't get torrential rain. Looking at keeping shots at reasonable distances but challenging, so I'm not clipping the lanes back too wide. Bug repellent strongly recomended. ;-)

From: crookedstix
Date: 20-May-15

TrapperK, Aren't you just the gadabout this spring! Utah, Wyoming, now England...I hope you're picking up bows at every stop.

That fourth one down is a Staghorn, but it doesn't live here any more... in fact three of those have gone away, but... umm... six or seven others have arrived in the meantime. Hope I can make it to this shoot!

From: TrapperKayak
Date: 20-May-15

Seems so huh.. You forgot Idaho...Sawtooths. Darn fine looking country, full of antelope and elk. OK right in the middle of writing this a pack of coyotes just started yipping out the back 40, close by. Something died... Probably a turkey. Anyway I have seen some bows in my teavels but didn't acquire any. Remember what I said about no purchases since tying the knot? Lol. Next stop prior to GB is Florida for a week to move all my Mom's belongings to either storage or consignment since she had to relocate to CA for health reasons, near my sister now. Sorry to burden this thread with this though. I wish I was going to this shoot. Have fun. Nice bows you have.

From: DanaC
Date: 21-May-15

We'll be hosting one next year too. IBO gave us two years to get this working. Hope the first goes well and word-of-mouth spreads.

From: bucktail
Date: 21-May-15

what is the average shot distance ? and the longest distance going to be ?

From: DanaC
Date: 21-May-15

I'm planning to make this 'shooter friendly' - mostly 20 or less, maybe a few longer on the biggest targets. Lanes will vary from wide open to narrow.

From: gmr12508
Date: 21-May-15

I can't wait to go!

From: THarris
Date: 22-May-15

Love to come up there one day, can't make it this year.

I do, however, have this event along with approximately 80 other major traditional archery shoots around the country, listed in the "American Traditional Archer" mail- out.

Terry Harris

From: DanaC
Date: 23-May-15

Thanks, Terry

(And that probably deserves a topic of its own ;-) )

From: NickG
Date: 23-May-15

Going to try and make it up for the shoot with my daughter. Are there going to be stakes set for kids?

From: DanaC
Date: 23-May-15

I plan to set two stakes per lane, seniors and juniors, but she is welcome to shoot from wherever is comfortable. It's a fun shoot, not a competition.

From: NickG
Date: 23-May-15

Ok, great. Hopefully we'll make it up to the shoot, thanks.

From: crookedstix
Date: 02-Jun-15

Hi Dana, Just bumping this back up, but I also wondered if you know what the fun/novelty shoots will be... any long-distance stuff, moving targets, inflatable Maine governors, etc.?

From: DanaC
Date: 02-Jun-15

I plan on having our old grizzly bear target out, shooters can stand as far back as they like. We're looking at getting our old pop-up targets out, have to look at range safety since we've moved a few things. "Inflatable Maine governors" sounds like fun, who sells them? ;-)

From: DanaC
Date: 07-Jun-15

Planing to make a 'gong' target, 1/4" plate circle about 11" across. Will have some old 'stumper' arrows available. Elimination shoot, increasing distances, last one to hit wins. (Unless all the arrows die first ;-) )

From: DanaC
Date: 07-Jun-15

PS if anybody has some old arrows or shafts to bring along, I'm planning to set up a table with jig, glue and feathers in case anyone wants to try fletching for the first time.

Setting up today, lanes mostly cleared, it's a jungle on 5-6-7. Ferns grow like crazy! Side two is mainly open woods, kick a few twigs aside and done. Water-proof shoes still highly recommended.

One thing I've learned about 3D over the years is that the right footwear -matters-. ;-)

Dana, Will see you there tomorrow. Gary

What is the weather for Sunday? Here in NY it is rain. Can't make it Saturday, so Sunday is it.

From: DanaC
Date: 20-Jun-15

Hate to say it but... doesn't look too good. Suggest watching the weather report and plan on coming early.

From: George Tsoukalas
Date: 20-Jun-15

DanaC, enjoy anyway. I opted to shoot locally with my daughter as she can't make the longer trip to your shoot. Hope everyone has a good time. Jawge

From: Tajue17
Date: 20-Jun-15

Sunday is a good day to road test any rain gear or feather waterproofing I'm told.

BUT, if the arrows are bare shafted then wet feathers don't mean a darn out to say a long 20yds.

wife and daughter decided to celebrate dads day Saturday (today) instead of rainy Sunday so have fun.

From: DanaC
Date: 20-Jun-15

Jawge and Tajue 17, thanks for thinking of us; not a huge turn-out but we had great weather and a fun bunch of shooters.

We -will- do this again next year, dates undecided.

To all who showed up, a huge THANK YOU!

From: DanaC
Date: 21-Jun-15

Well, the weather clobbered us this morning, those few who showed up are automatically registered in the Hard Core Hall Of Fame. The sun finally broke out as we tossed target 27 in the back of the truck!

Thanks to all who came out, complemented the course, and especially the gentleman who pointed out a couple of no-brainers that I overlooked! Your input was greatly appreciated, sir. Looking at a weekend in mid-May next year but of course synchronizing calendars that far ahead is mostly guess-work.

Again, Thanks to all who came.

From: gmr12508
Date: 21-Jun-15

Shot the course today (soaked head to toe) and I had an absolute blast! This is a great course with really fun and challenging shots. Dana, it was nice meeting you and thank you guys for allowing us to shoot there today! The video will be up in about three weeks.

From: DanaC
Date: 21-Jun-15

Thanks for coming out in the downpour, Greg. Naturally, the sun broke out as we tossed target 28 into the back of the truck ;-)

Walked the course yesterday, two weeks after the shoot. Growing like crazy, already needs trimming. Told the BoD I need a brush trimmer, they agreed. Regular league shoot coming up in August. Meanwhile the deer have moved back in. Got video of this guy, close by target 20

Date: 13-Jul-15

Greg's video of the shot is now up on youtube. Great job!

yes

From: DanaC

It's possible, then. I've actually heard of one buck seen crossing 'Red Bridge' by the boat launch, instead of swimming across ;-)

From: bucktail

Smart deer that water is to cold to swim in. I have seen deer on the State St. bridge in Bondsville before.
