Back at the cabin enjoying the day. The rabbits lived to run another day but so good to be out. Winter in Michigan can be long but ,thankfully, the rabbits give us a lot of enjoyment and wonderful table fare.

I agree. Rabbit hunting can occupy a lot of time that just breezes by. Gonna take a Saturday to look at some territory at a nearby State Park. We have most of February yet to hunt small game.

I would also like to hear about your footwear! I like the look of those!

Wow you are popular tonight, eh?

Look like Steigers, have a pair myself, very warm.

I have been lusting for a pair of Stegers for years but so far have not figured out exactly what to do with them, or how well they would work here in Pa. Would you please tell us about your experience with those boots: anything and everything that you have to say would be worth hearing. It is not too late to get a pair.

Thanks Steve

There's heat then there's woodheat.I can't explain the difference but there is no heat like it. S

I can see you guys are kindred spirits. Yes; there is heat and then there is wood heat. The kind that gets into you all the way to your bones. Unbeatable. Yep. Steger mukluks. The best way I can explain them is they are like wearing incredibly warm moccasins around the woods. They are actually the warmest footwear I own and by far the most comfortable. They are a Cree Indian design. Moose hide bottoms and sail cloth canvas tops. Very durable. I only wear them in below freezing temps. I'll be filling my back quiver with flu flu's and grabbing my NM Whisper and get back at it. That is if I can pull myself away from the woodstove!!!

Sorry. The stove is a Cylinder Stove. They are made in Montana. They are very popular in large wall tents but mine has been perfect in my cabin. My cabin is 13x16. Very heavy gauge steel. Not a sheet metal stove. It holds heat very well.

Nice place!. Hope to get after rabbits this weekend.

I sometimes get paid by an outfitter friend to be his "fire guy"...that involves getting up a few times in the middle of cold November nights to stoke fires in the wall tents the hunters are sleeping in...the key to the whole process is being able to sort out the draft situation for each of those annoying airtight heaters...the only thing I saw on your stove is those amazing vents...with them, and a damper in the chimney, I bet I could make that stove work almost like one with a thermostat.

Before I checked out their website I kind of had an idea in my mind what those stoves would cost...I have to say the actual price is pretty much half of what I was thinking...they sure look like an awfully good value for the money...thank for telling us about an amazing company...I am surely going to email my outfitter buddy and tell him about them

Windwalker...got me in the mood to do a bit of rabbit hunting as well, fair amount of snow here, cold, must be close to zero this morning, sun comes up, i think i'll try and catch a few out soaking up the sun.

camodave...if you shop around you can buy the hardware to make a stove like that out of a barrel. 55 gal or 25 gal depending on what size stove.

I made one for my cabin, has almost the exact same door and dampners. Welded a flat plate on top as well...paint it with stove black and your in business. i doubt i had more than 100.00 in mine.

I'll be after bunnies through February as well. Got some new wool to try out.

Right now it is -23 up here. My beagle is practically sleeping on the woodstove. He is a great cold temp runner on snowshoe hares so we will head out when the sun warms up a bit. Got to go check some beaver sets first and do some ice pounding I imagine. Right now he is dreaming with his feet going and making little howling sounds. Running a snowshoe no doubt.

Windwalker, I take a break with a local brew! Herb

Herb. What doesn't show in my picture by the stove is the two fingers of Four Roses bourbon in my hand. Beautiful cabin, my friend. Every time I'm at my cabin I thank God for how blessed I am.

Here's our cabin stove. I traded a recurve bow for it about eight years ago and it found it's place in the cabin. Ours was a prebuilt....three miles down the road, and set up on our foundation. We insulated and paneled it. It's 12 x 24 and fits our needs well. My next favorite thing to walking the woods. Well, maybe third favorite.

Great thread, guys. I'm currently on break from building my little shack until we get some snow melt at my camp. Hope it turns out as nice as all your places.
