I have a Schafer Silvertip coming. I bought a used one. It is set up to be shot off the shelf. My recurves are all set up to shoot off the shelf. but I'm wondering how many of you shoot your Silvertip off an elevated rest? that way a person could shoot feathers or vanes. The pictures I've seen of Silvertips on this site seemed to be set up to shoot off the shelf. I guess if I wanted I could always put an elevated rest on it later. Any input is welcome. Thanks, arrowflinger

Hey bud. I have one that came set up with an elevated rest, and another set up for off the shelf. They both shoot very well. Either way is good, as far as I am concerned.

I would probably just try both and see what you think.I believe Paul Schafer shot plastic vanes and used an elevated rest.Plastic vanes are pretty trouble free in bad weather conditions.

I shot my Schafer's with feathers and off the shelf.

I have achieved good arrow flight with elevated arrow rests on other bows. But prefer to shoot of the shelf. With the arrow riding just above my hand. Some prefer an elevated rest though.

Shot off the shelf for years but now shoot off a rest. I'm getting great flight of the rest, very forgiving

I shoot all my bows off the shelf. My bud uses a Bear Weather Rest and swears by it. I tried one for 6 months but wasn't happy. Try both but give each enough time to be perfectly sure. Frank

Thanks guys, I'm planning to put an elevated rest on it and shoot plastic vanes. Do you guys think 4 inch vanes would be ok, or should I go with 5 inch? I may try some 4 inch first.

You've shot mine its elevated. I shot 5in with it. Did well. I ain't got you or Pats killer instinct though.

That is a downright Lie, PHilip. I heard those Mississippi hogs have all moved out of the swamps and got apartments in town for fear of you.

I like to keep things simple and shoot off the shelf. Not worry if the elivated rest falls off during hunting . Seal skin . Elevated rest works for others . Shoot what work for you .

Yea, And I don't have the eye for those fast running Hog shots you pulled off a Shiloh!!

They done did something Pat, I don't think it's fear of me but they've made thereself scarce. Lyndell hitting something running is easy. Just whisper to that black widow a little and it activates them heat seeking arrows. I dunno if it'll work on the Schafer, haven't tried yet. You have to form a compassionate bond with the bow first.

I shot off the shelf for about 15 years, then recently started shooting with a rest. I have a Bear Weather Rest on my 'Tip.
