A friend gave me his Shakespeare Yukon so I could make him a string. While inspecting the bow I discovered a sliver on the belly of the bow that runs right through the silkscreen label. It's 1/8" wide by 2-1/2" long. I glued it back down with Gorilla super glue. I was thinking of trying some electrical shrink wrap aroung the limb to see if it would help hold the sliver down. Anyone tried this? Thanks.

Is this to hold it while the glue cures? Or to be left in place?

I was thinking, left in place.

Doubt it's necessary but couldn't hurt.

I would think that you would need to put to much heat on that limb to get the shrink wrap to shrink and it probably would not have enough clamping force to do any good.

I agree with Rock. Put some Loc-tite 420 in it. If that won't hold it probably can't be held.

The Gorilla glue ought to work fine for that application...Loctite 420 is more designed for cracks where you need a glue with wicking properties...I doubt that shrink wrap would add anything and would imbalance the limbs anyway

I would discuss it with your friend first, either way. If I asked for a string and got back a patched up limb, I would be mortified rather than grateful, even though you have the best intentions. Like Rock wrote, the heat could very well cause the limb to de-lam (blow up).

Thanks everyone - Good point seahorse and I covered it. I got pemission to glue it back down from my friend berfore I did the deed. Shot the bow this afternoon after the glue cured for 24 hrs. and it held up fine. Only shot a dozen arrows. My friend remembers dry firing said bow when he was a kid and believes that is what caused the sliver lifting up. Now that his Dad has passed he wanted to start shooting and found the bow in a closet with 20 years of crud on it. Another inductee into our wonderful sport.
