I have an older custom make recurve bow made by Doug Knight. The limbs have a slight twist that I believe I have straightened. More importantly the bow is just heavier than I want to pull (65#). Last I heard and as far as I know, Mr. Knight is no longer making bows.

I thought about selling the bow, but now I'm thinking I may want to keep it if I can get some lighter limbs made. Does anyone here know of a bowyer that would possibly make limbs for a bow that isn't theirs?

Thanks

Talk to Mike at Mad Dog or someone like that and see if he will make you some. Have you thought about putting a set of Samick or Trad Tech. limbs on it?

Isn't a doug knight recurve similar to a wes wallace, stalker or brackenbury? If so then I would say that one of those bowyers would do it.

fdp, I have thought about some modern limbs, but I just don't have those skills. I spend most of my days swinging a sledge hammer, hahaha.

kyphil, I'll check with someone. But is Brackenbury no longer with us?

If you think about it adapting a set of limbs to a riser they did not create could very well be just as much work for a bowyer as creating a complete bow...I think you might just as well get a bowyer to build you a bow and maybe shape the grip similarly...there are a number of bowyers who will consider reducing the draw weight of a set of limbs by up to 10 percent...you can sell the Doug Knight bow to defray some of the cost of the new bow

DDave, that's really what I originally wanted to do. Maybe I'll give that another shot. I'm actually way more comfortable with a long bow anyway.

Do you have pictures of the bow you could post?

I'll take some detailed pix of the riser and limbs when I get home.

I did have one on my phone this at least shows the riser with the alignment pins and the main hole that the bolt goes through.

I got a Savora TD riser that I'd like to do the same with... Similar pinned/screw limb connection... I'm all ears too!

So with all the warfing that is going on these days, and the availability of ILF limbs... How hard could it be to align, drill and tap a new set to fit? Really? Those limbs *are* intended to be "adjustable" are they not? So the angle could stand to vary somewhat, right?

What am I missing here that an ILF guru could enlighten me and others on?

It seems as though many bowyers are reluctant to make limbs for bows other than their own. Those that will may charge a premium, based on my inquiries.

I'm still looking around for limbs to fit on a Howatt Hatfield riser with its unique parallel pins and bolt attachment system. Anyone?
