looks like zebra.

Zebra or Bocote! I'm leaning more on the Zebra side!

I have bocote veneers that color...always possible that it was stained by the bowyer...wood can be very tough to identify once it is finished...it can be very tough to identify before it is finished...I often visit hobbithouseinc.com and he makes the point that there are lots of woods out there being sold as something they are not by people who deal in wood every day...Wenge is another wood that comes to mind for your riser and it tends more toward that chocolate color

I agree with Keefers Bocote or Zebra.

I just checked on hobbithouse and I would bet the farm that bow is Wenge

Bowyers do all sorts of things to please their customers, often I am sure against their better judgment...sometimes the bowyer learns something from the customer...I remember a fellow shooter who was shooting a Bearspaw bow and who was good friends with Neil Jacobson...he convinced Neil to use a wood combination that Neil said would look silly together...once it was built Neil had to admit it looked great, as I did when I saw it...wish I could remember what it was...that was a truly striking bow

The more I look at it I'm thinking Zebra.

1st photo looks bubinga, but then the 2nd looks like zebrawood.

My 2 cents if I may. Picture #2 looks like coco. 1 and 3 don't. Coco can get those wide grain patterns. That's an awful big riser. If it is light in the hand than it could be stained Zebra. Don't Know much about Bocote or Wendge never used them but if its coco it should be "very" heavy!

If its an old bow my next guess would be Brazilain Rosewood by pictures 1 and 3. Use to be used a lot but you can't get it now. It can have a chocolate color with the wide grow rings. It would also make a fairly heavy riser.

A lot depends on just how heavy that bow is. Zebra dose not have much mass weight. If the riser is heavy, than its something else.

Y'all take care

It's bocote.

Some pieces turn dark brown with age/light exposure.

I recently refinished a bocote bow that I made about 7 years ago.

The wood in that bow had aged just like yours (dark brown).

The color lightened back up after I sanded the outer oxidized layer off.

Cocobolo is difficult. I've seen it from Orange with black streaking grain to deep dark purplish black.

I am not knowledgeable enough to say what wood it is. I have two bows with cocobolo risers. To me, the wood does not seem to be cocobolo. What I really want to say I really like the look of the bow and hope it shoots well for you.

I agree with nibbler looks very much like kingwood to me.

Looks like two different riser woods, to me. Bad lighting on second picture. Jeff F

It may be Brazilian rosewood.

Best wishes.

A couple of photos in natural sunlight, without reflections, would be helpful. Artificial lighting as well as camera flashes distort colors. Also, a couple of additional close-up pics would to make call on what kind of wood is in the riser.
