Perusing the auction site and came upon this bow that the seller claimed was a "Scholtz." Initial reaction is a Schultz but of course that would be a pipe dream...second best is maybe the name was illegible and it's another make of bow.

Then I remember that crookedstix just acquired an "Eicholtz" and I go take a look at the pic he sent me then back to the name written on the bow I found...sent him an email and he confirmed my suspicions. The first letters of the name are smudged but the rest is clear.

Not really clear but in the first picture you can see the word "-- choltz" hand printed...I'll try and get a bigger picture.

So, it appears this is a pre-55 bow made in Frank Eicholtz's shop before Wilson White bought it in 1955 and began White Bows. I believe that White was the chief bowyer for Eicholtz Bows before taking over the business. As most of you know Eicholtz was one of the pioneers of using glass in bows and developed bow glass for other makers. I'm just thrilled at finding this gem!!

Always happy to flip a bow!

Flip a bow! Like that! Rest, grip wrap and side plate not original but those are just cosmetic...hard to see how the tips are put together but they look elaborate...also hard to see if it has multiple laminations like some later bows. At 61# it's going to really whistle an arrow!!

Not a Schulz bow. John's name doesn't have a "t" in it.

Hi George! Welcome back to the cold and frozen north! Trust you had a good vacation.

I don't think it's a Schultz at all..but I'm positive it's an old Eicholtz, especially with the white "glass" on the belly.

Thanks Pete, it looks very much like a Cravotta Bros. as well; the design, and writing look like a Black Hawk. Not sure though, as I've only seen a few of Frank's bows.

Hey George:

Here's a link to one that sold on eBay to someone on this Wall.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VTG-1940-1950-039-S-FRANK-EICHOLTZ-RECURVE- BOW-SAN-DIEGO-ARCHERY-TARGET-LONG-60-034-/361174798599? ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=hN sDWYeGts%252F%252BokXr8S5eOwSyhRc%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Slightly newer with better graphics but note the design and the white glass on the belly and the coloured on the back. The one I got has oak leaf type camo sprayed on the glass on the back.

Did some more research after George Stout's comment and a closer look at the writing on the bow and the nocks.

Once I had additional pictures I can see the writing is amateurish....put on much later...also the tips don't look like an Eicholtz. But they do look identical to those on a 1956 Blackhawk Warrior, right down to the hand painted white "double rings."

I'll post a picture of the tip on the bow I acquired and then those on a Blackhawk.

I think George was dead on in his call that the bow is a Cravotta Brothers.

I now believe it's an early (mid-1950's)Warrior. The handle wrap is the same, the lams and glass are the same and the tips are identical.

Mr. Stout is rarely wrong!!
