Always looking forward to our first event of a new year

From: ceme24
Date: 04-Jan-15

Glad to see you guys will be there David. It seems the vendor list is missing some of the other bowyers that frequent the show. It's a tough industry and that show is tough - lots of guys getting a cabin fever break, not too many with open wallets.

If I go, I have it in my mind I will buy a bow. Last year I bought a new bow, a stave, and some other stuff. I need a new bow like a hole in the head, but you have to support these things if you want them to continue.

There is a pretty good chance I won't make this year because of work though.

Date: 04-Jan-15

We plan on being there!

i just checked the vendor list,, it seems to be alot of smaller dealer names on there.. not many big name bowyers either

A heads up for all those driving. I have been told since the big crash a couple weeks ago the Troopers are watching speeds far more closely than is normal for Michigan. (don't need to lose bow money for a ticket)

From: Hawk
Date: 28-Jan-15

Way to go Tommy Boy for coming all the way from KC! BTW, the police only ticket Ohio drivers for driving too slow ;-). It's a great show, hope the drive is good for all of you. If you're not familiar with Kalamazoo, try to make it to Bell's Eccentric Pub for a Two Hearted IPA (rated the #1 IPA in the country) at 355 E. Kalamazoo Ave in the "historic" stretch of town. I grew up in Kazoo and consider it a perfectly sized city. Hope to see some familiar faces. I want to connect with some Michigan flint knappers and learn another hobby.

Getting too old to worry about fighting weather for such. Too darn bad it isn't held where or when that isn't an issue.

Remember that the main highways are taken care of first so it should not be a problem getting there. Just drive accordingly.

Some of you may want to check out the Kalamazoo Beer Exchange. All kinds of beers on tap with a stock market type ticker. If they aren't selling a certain beer the price drops and if it is selling the price will go up. MARKET CRASHES ARE THE BEST! They also have a pretty amazing menu... All within walking distance of Bell's.

On a side note my club Potawatomi Bowmen (the only archery club in Kazoo) bought some BLOB targets this year. Some to shoot some to re-sell. If anyone is interested in buying one, shoot me a pm. I'll be at the Expo om Sunday. Ordinarily I would think this type of thing is bad form, but the club is a non-profit. I'm not making a dime.

From: SquareHead
Date: 29-Jan-15

Thanks guys for the information about Bell's and the Beer Exchange. We have since changed our plans to be able to go to both. We are also going to check out the funkadelic band on Friday night. I will be the ugly dude with a cane, dancing with a very, very pretty woman!

Any more tips about bars, dining, etc., would be great!

"Any more tips about bars, dining, etc., would be great!"

Breweries and Pubs downtown Kalamazoo. You "could" walk to them all, but a few on the opposite ends of downtown.

Bells: Already stated Kalamazoo Beer Exchange: already stated Shakespeare’s or "Shakey's": Many beers on tap in the old corporate offices of Shakespeare’s... yes, of Shakespeare’s Archery Arcadia Brewing: Try the smoked foods. Ruppert’s: Try the Peanut Butter Porter and Double High IPA. Feed the great dane "Capt. Stoob's" your free popcorn. This place is one of my favorites. Gonzo's: I hear, the food is great. I've been there once when they first opened. I wasn't impressed, but have heard they are much better now. Boatyard: This might be the secret gem in kazoo right now. It's never been what I would call "busy" when I've been there. Buy 22oz beers they are cheaper than two from the taps. :0) They don't serve food, but you can have it delivered and sometimes one of the local food truck guys sets up shop in there.

If you were able to hit these, you would have a very good sampling of what Kazoo has to offer for beers.

If you want to venture out of town a bit. Grand Rapids (about an hour north) is Beer City. (cough.. they say… cough) Also Paw Paw Brewery (about 20 minutes west on I-94) has some amazing beers.

Went yesterday to hear Monty Browning speak and pick up a copy of his book "Bowhunting: A passion for life" He spoke on Dangerous game hunting and did a great job. Picked up a signed leather bound limited edition and got number 7! Picked up 4 more for friends. Enjoyed a visit with the people from Predator Archery, Christian Bowhunters, Enjoyed watching as 2 guys made self bows right there at the expo center, and enjoyed looking over the beautiful bows made by Black Widow! It is going on today so don't miss it. Monty's book can be ordered by emailing him at [email protected].

I was there Saturday and it's the biggest crowd i have ever seen at this event. One thing that I noticed and made me happy was the amount of young kids going through the used bow table and shooting at the shooting lanes. I always am happy to see the young ones enjoying the sport and keeping it alive. It was a good trip. I didn't get to make it last year due to Mother Nature.

Just got home. It was another great show. From what I have heard it was near the top in attendance ever.

Thanks to those that came to the show and especially those that stopped by to say and check out my wares.

This is the second time we have had weather really hammer the place on Sunday. I'd suggest planning on Saturday for future shows.

Saturday was a great day at the Michigan Traditional Bow Hunter booth. Picked up several new members and many more renewals. Also sold out of most of our T shirts . Just a great show all the way around. The hall we were in was shoulder to shoulder all day on Saturday.

WE were across from the Michigan Flint Knappers and that gave me a chance to visit with the father of Michigan Flint Knapping, Norm Blaker. Had a good visit with Monty Browning on Friday when we got there to set up. Looking forward to his talk at our banquet here in Michigan next month.
