Just got these TT Black Max limbs in from Lancaster and I'm a little disappointed in the quality. Both top and bottom limb tips look like there is no finish on them. I just can't tell and would be afraid of moisture causing the limbs to come apart. Would you shoot these?

Send them back

they look like old toe nails glued on some limbs.

I would send those back whether they're safe or not. I'm sure Lancaster won't have a problem swapping those out.

They are probably fine but I would rather have some that didn't look like that, if I had a choice anyway.

Those are absolutely fine. Micarta, (the tip material), unlike wood, doesn't soak up moisture. Those are some beautifully shooting limbs. Don't expect custom bow fit and finish on $130 limbs. Performance, though? Better than most customs.

I'd be disappointed too. Then, I'd go out in the garage get some fine emery cloth and sandpaper, sand them down some, then, spray with a couple coats of urethane.

I know, I know, it shouldn't have to be done, but they'd be done quicker that the time it would take me to get to the post office. :^)

Thanks Jim, I actually was considering that. Like you said, I could have it done faster than it would take to send them back and wait for the new ones.

If the tips look like that, and got through QA like that, what else could have been missed?

Send em back and ask for SF Axioms. You get a partial credit and a better limb, I believe.

The nocks are cut a little short too, tips should be longer. Call LAS and talk to John Wert those limbs didnt go through his hands but he will fix you up.

I own numerous pairs of TT Black Max Carbons and Black Max Carbon Extreme limbs. They are an excellent product. None of my limb tips are shaped the way yours are and mine have excellent finish. I think there was an inspection problem with your limbs. I would strongly encourage you to send them back. LAS will do the right thing

Anyone notice that when W&W discontinued the KAP T-Rex limb, the Axiom was introduced as their low end limb labeled SF. Don't know, and just a guess, but if they are relabeled T-Rex limbs, they're not the same quality as TT's Blackmax (Samick Universal) limb.

Crap happens, send them back and John will replace them. One bad set doesn't define the overall product.

Yes with a catchers mask and a football helmet on

Axiom+ limb is a pretty good limb for the money, I got a 32# set purely for Form/bale work. I figured I would see what that can do and shot a 286 on a 300 round.

I had two sets of BM limbs and the tips are different shape then yours. I would not chance it, back they would go, if it were up to me. They'll back them up and replace.

I have micarta that looks like that after 3 or 4 coats of Thunderbird . All other micarta that I have used looked good . I think it is absorbing the finish sanding more with finer paper helped .

Ok, these are supposed to be the long limbs. I measured them from bottom to tip and they are 26" long. Does anyone else have some longs they can measure and tell me if they are the correct length? Thanks in advance.

Hi TW,

I would send them back. They ship pretty fast so you should have your new ones pretty fast. As said above, give John a call. I just got a pair of recurve 50 pound shorts in the glass/wood and they shoot amazing for a $130 limb. The short recurve limbs measure 23 inches so 26 for longs sounds about right.

I don't know much about anything, but those tips are some of the ugliest I've ever seen.

Tradnut I just received a set of black max carbon and wood. The tips look similar to yours, but maybe not quite as bad. Mine are the long limbs. With my black magic riser I should have an AMO length of 62". You can check your limb length by measuring your string at the right brace height. It should fall in the ballpark of what the AMO length should be. About 3" less than the AMO. When I got my bow and riser I started from scratch. I screwed down the limb bolts all the way. Then backed them out two turns in my case, and then an extra half turn for the top limb to get my positive tiller. I strung the bow and let the string settle a little by drawing it back, I twisted the string to get my brace height and checked my tiller. Everything seemed fine. The bow and limbs shoot fine.

Ok, John Wert at LAS contacted me concerning the limbs. I just want to take a moment and give praise to some great customer service and a great guy to talk and deal with! TOP NOTCH in my books!

I have always had great service at LAS and was in no way angry over these limbs. Just want that clarified. But John, wants customers to be happy and he makes it his business to see too that! I am happy! Got a new set coming and these will go back to be retired to the bone yard.

MERRY CHRISTMAS John, folks at LAS and to the folks here at the wall that replied and were helpful! TW

He just said that it was a small batch that came in that the clear coating was done poorly. It doesn't sound like this was something that happens a lot. Just that one small batch of limbs. He did say they caught most of them and pulled them from the shelf but, looks like a few made it through the cracks. They will definitely make good on it though!

Glad to hear you are a happy camper. Personally I would like a little more meat on those tips. Maybe ok for a Hill style longbow or Dacron strIng but I would be cautious with my skinny strings.

Have gotten a Titan bow and another set of limbs and both were perfect. Mistakes happen, but a seller that jumps into the problem and solves it for you without any whining or complaining----Priceless. Have never gone wrong [thru Compound freestyle and Traditional] dealing with the Landcaster guys. Roy

Micarta dosn 't even need a finish on it...but those are plain poorly shaped! My set has fine tapered tips on them!
