just received colt targetsman bow that I got from big auction site last week. From what I read in past post on LW, it seems to be Wing instead of Pearson.

no delaminations no cracks, woven fiberglass, really beautiful bow. but tiny bit of a twist. I heated up my microwave heating pad and applied to near the fade and twisted away and held a bit, and it seems to want to straighten out eventually.

I'm talking to the bow and asking it to wake-up and teach me few things :) We'll see how it'll go, hopefully it'll get out of it's cranky state.

in the mean time, any idea about the brace-height for this type of bow? AMO 66inches.

I'd have to have a closer inspection to advance anything firm, but the bow, has MORE Root roots (sorry) than Wing.

Bob Lee once commented that he couldn't remember which/what bows they made for Colt, but my interviews with Larry Root turned up more evidence on which Colt models were Root built and this one has THAT look.

Brace is personal and anything from 7"+ will work. I suspect the bow will like 8" plus.

Is that Zebra too? Looks like it from photos from here?

yorktown5, what photo would allow you to get better idea? the tip is relly small, got cople of layers of wood. core? wood in between lamination tapers to almost 1/2 its thickness from the fade as it nears the tip (very different from supermag 48 of 2012)

RymanCat, I don't know too much about wood, but it looks like other zebrawood I've seen online.

here's how the twist is coming out now. I knew it wanted to straighten out and start flinging some arrows:).

...sorry, should have said, "couple layeres of nice alternating wood reinforcement at the nock" and "core? wood in between lamination tapers to almost 1/2 its thickness from the fade as it nears the tip". runoff sentence and losing your thought in the middle... as I edit. :(

I can't offhand think of any Wings with the I beam construction of this bow and which was near universal with the better grade Roots and Shakespeares. Nor can I think of any of the longer field/sport Wings with this bow's riser profile, or Wing's use of Zebrawood.

In particular, this bow is as close to identical as I can determine to the Root Fieldmaster. My book Vintage Bows-III has info proving the Root builds of bows such as the Colt Huntsman, and a Colt advertisement showing the line including the Huntsman has this bow shown as well.

Ergo, I deduce it is MUCH more likely this is a Root built model.

I went and took the catalog photo that Rooty uploaded.

Yorktown5, thanks for letting me know where my bow came from. I guess this is a pretty great find!
