I just bought a PTF off of here and the shelf seems too narrow and slanted...just seeing if this is normal,or if someone has tweaked it or what? i had a PTF a few years ago and don't remember it being this way. Thoughts???

Kinda looks like mine, but hard to tell from the pictures
not a very wide shelf on them
the PTF is a very nice shooting bow and balances nice in your hand also very forgiving of arrow spine
Bet you are gonna love it, I have 3

They put those grooves in the shelf a few years ago I believe to help with arrow clearance. Somewhere around 2007 or 2008 they just started rounding it over. It looks normal to me, Widows have very narrow shelves. This is a 2012 MA riser without the shelf groove.

Too, the shelf looks narrower because the side plate is covering half of it, yet it doesn't appear to extend far enough to rest an arrow on. Trim it shorter and put a different piece of material on the shelf.

Call Black Widow, they can tell you for sure. Most Widows have a pretty narrow shelf though, but yours looks a little different then what I have seen. The original owner may have requested it?

ok,I just took the side plate/shelf material off...and it shoots fine now. No more problem with the arrow falling off the rest.
I'm probably going to sell it,I just wanted to compare it to a few of my other bows
Thank you all for the advice!!

The shelf on my 2001 SAV is only as wide as an 11/32 arrow, same as this 2000 MA, plus the strike plate that is. It's narrow. I just have a 1/4 in strip of Velcro on the shelf. You can use your imagination where a shelf groove would be if this was a model between 2004 - 07,08 or 09, somewhere in there was the shelf groove time frame.

I don't think I'd like a shelf that small

The advantage to a shelf that small is that you have fewer things in the way that will affect arrow clearance. There should be no problem keeping the arrow on the shells as long as you aren't torqueing it with your fingers when you draw.
I regularly use a wrapped on shelf of about 5/16" on my self bows and have no issues shooting any diameter arrow from them.

Actually.....I like a shelf that small. I was always reluctant to get a BW because of the narrow shelf, but after having a couple, it's no big deal. A wide shelf seems unnecessary anyways if you do your part :-)

Here is the shelf of the 2001 SAV. I love the shelf on these older models and newer ones are about the same, maybe a touch wider, I know they come back further toward the web of your hand. The last riser I had built though I had cut the shelf like the older models.
I shelf such as this promotes good arrow clearance.

That's normal, you need to use thinner shelf material. I've Been killin stuff with them for 20 years with out a problem
