Your odds will be much greater if you settle for 58". You wont notice much difference in length anyway. Or buy used.

Big jim has bear k-mags on sale for $319, plus he will put his own strong on it, and shoot it and go over to make sure it is in top shape.

Big Jim.....new or used!

Have you considered a vintage Bear Kodiak Magnum? They are as good as they get. I have, and still, hunt with them. The 1962 model is one of the nicest and best shooting bows ever made in my opinion.

My 56" Groves and 50" Browning Cobra

I don't know of any bowyer who makes a recurve in the $300 range. Used, vintage recurves are your best bet in that price range. Browning Cobra 1, Shakespeare Cascade, Herter's, Bear Magnum. You'd have many choices there.

The Browning Nomad and Nomad 1 are 54" you can pick up a great used one for $150.00 or under if you are lucky.

I recently sold an almost "mint" Shakespeare X-18 Sierra, 52" and 55#, for WELL under $300. It was a nice little bow, just more weight than I wanted for a "squirrel bow".

I have a 54" Damon Howatt Hi-Speed. There always seems to a few for sale on the auction site and classifieds. Great shooting little bow

As others have said there are all sorts of excellent 54" vintage bows available.

For $300 you could buy two and likely three great 52"-54" quality bows with money left over that would shoot the lights out!

For example, this year I acquired through careful shopping (at different times) a 54"-50# Shakespeare Super Necedah, a Browning Nomad 54"-52# and a York Thunderbolt 54"-57# for a total of $235. With shipping still under $300 US.

There are even more 52" bows out there...these 60's and 70's bows were made in the heyday of traditional archery and are well designed, well built and a pleasure to shoot.

If your just looking for a short bow. The auction site is loaded with them. Bear Kodiak Mags (52"). Quite a few Browning Cobra's (50"). If your looking for one custom built, you won't find any for $300.

I picked up this bear superag 48 inch bow for 300 bucks....if your looking to get a custom made bow for 300 that's going to be tough I would recommend this bow....very nice bow no stacking and great shooter

x2on supermag48. Fun bow. Got it used for $200, THAT was money well spent. I also picked up Black Hawk Avenger, 70's bow that's 52inches and sweet easy shooter for $45 on big auctino site. You do have a lot of choices.

Maddog makes a 54" Kaliska recurve new for $300 shipped. Otherwise, I think you will have to watch the used market.

We have many discounted Bear bows in stock and depending on what your needs are, may have one under $300 new. I also have about 60 used bows left this year and as mentioned earlier, I have quite a few close out Kmags that are $319.99 and free shipping until Dec 24

thanks, bigjim

You are not going to get a Maddog Kaliska at 50 pounds...Mike only makes them to 45 pounds at 26 inches...it is a kids and ladies bow

Mike WILL make it to fifty, just ask him. He also has a 52" Take down Kaliska.

The Samicks are made in Korea and China. Better to buy vintage IMO.

Yeah, I have been thinking outside the box lately like Prairie drifter and Camodave mentioned.

50" Bodnik / Bearpaw Tombow can be ordered up to 55#, draws 29" and has 30 year transferable warranty. It is well below the $300. price you are looking for.
