Ok so I found the carbon arrow that fits my bow problem is I don't have the weight I want. My question : If a 30" carbon arrow with 125 tip and 11gr ish insert flies true, will a 30" aluminum or carbon fly the same given the same tip weight? Or does the material affect it Thanks Justin

Different can act differently...yes. In my experience, carbons resist bending more than other materials, and recovers more quickly. That doesn't mean a .500 spine carbon won't shoot like a .500 aluminum, but there's no guarantee it will either. Bottom line is to take the time to tune the bow to the arrow and never take anything for granted.

You have to find arrows of different materials with the same spine.

I like Full Metal Jacket Eastons for more weight...I just put together a Dangerous Game version yesterday that weighs over 900 grains

No,you can't compare carbon with aluminum spine. They are two different arrow materials and react and recover differently. Most carbons come in a 300,340,400,500 and 600 spine and different diamters. What aluminum arrows have that same spine.Aluminum have so many more different spines.A close one is a 400 spine carbon and 2117(.407 spine)aluminum, but then the 2117 is a larger diameter then most carbons of a .400 spine.

The diameter of the shaft and the recovery rate comes into play so you have to tune each type material to find what works.

I know I would have to fine tune was just hoping it would be close since I picked up my first recurve I have had an urge for wooden arrows they just seem like more than I have time for with the tapering and straightening. The carbons are just so lite. And I don't like all the weight tubes and weight adding tricks. Anyway thanks for all the advice yall are a wealth of knowledge and it is very appreciated heck just a couple weeks ago I learned what maple lines are. ( thanks Mr. Stout)

put in your bow weight, arrow length, and tip weight and these guys can pretty much tell you which aluminum your bow will shoot.

Shot a lot of aluminum in the past, but cedars the last 25 years...give or take. I have NO clue about carbon...lol. been giving them a thought, but the numbering designations appear to be some form of Latin. Gotta do myself some serious learnin' a'fore I game them. Been peaking into Big Jim's site and eye-balling charts...think I have aquired enough knowledge to get meself in a bit of trouble. But hey, that's part of the fun...eh?

There are light, med and heavy carbon arrows. Take your pick , no doubt carbons are more tollerant to heavy tip weight if thats what you want. If not you can just start with heavy carbons.

The easiest way for me is to use stu millers calculator and get an aluminum with a point weight to match the broad head I want to use ,

then work to get that arrow as perfect as I can by cutting length (start a litle long)- I then enter that arrow length, point weight feathers ETC into the calculator and use that dynamic spine

can then enter diferent carbon arrows and play with components, lenght etc to get the same dynamic spine -and bingo it works great- can also do that with wood to see what dynamic spine -for set up chosen

May not make sense to most but I've never been a fan of heavy weight broadheads. Go more for the mass in the arrow...the arrow pushes the broadhead, not the broadhead pulling the arrow. Doesn't mean I shoot underweight heads...just don't go for shovels. My cedars are spined for 70lb, my widow is 65 at my draw, zwickey delta 2 blade & the old bear razorhead are my favs. Same bow with aluminum I shot dougherty naturals in 2217.

For the year and a half I have been on here I have been hearing about stus calculator. Do I just download this thing? Do I have to buy it? Where does this mysterious wonder come from. Oh and thanks for all the tips fellas. I'm rough on arrows so carbons are good for me just need some weight. every couple of months though I think about wood it's probably inevitable that I will try them. Maybe when I decide on a new longbow Told my wife just the other day " I think I ams starting to like these bows more than my guns" that's a bold thing to say. I am very much a gun guy Thanks Justin
