I just ordered a Toelke Kestral yesterday and wanted to see what short bows you guys shoot. Pictures, harvest stats anything you care to share. My bow is 52ins and I wanted a tree stand bow for a small climber or loc-on! Not brand specific just size wise lets see um if you don't mind sharing.

40ins to 56ins

Thanks, David

Here is one I made for a buddy last year- 43" amo 55#@28"

Looks good thanks for sharing. Fine work. Hope mine turns out close to that. I asked 50 to 55lb range. But that 43in would be nimble,

I think historically, the short bows...like the Kodiak Magnum, have killed as much game as any other here in the USA. Chuck Kroll killed everything from rabbits to Grizzly with his Kodiak Mag. Lots of empirical evidence regarding their efficiency. Enjoy.

In the mid to late 60's I'm sure field archers shot longer bows but I was in a hunt club and most went to short bows because they were so practical for hunting. One year our clubs game list for the years kills was mostly made up of short bow kills except for a very few of us long draw guys.

Probably also worth noting that, historically, many cultures around the globe would not have considered these to be "short" bows.

Here's my 50" and 52" bows, except for a Sierra, a Ben Pearson Hawk and a Red Wing Hunter.

The first three from the left are 50" bows: a 60# Shakespeare Cascade, 51# Browning Cobra 1 and a 55# Herter's Perfection 52 (actually 50" AMO).

The rest are all 52"; a 55# 1976 Kodiak Magnum and a 50# 1967 K Mag, a 45# Blackhawk Avenger, a 45# Pearson Mach 1 and a 1970 52# Browning Nomad Stalker. There's a 1964 54" Nomad peeking out on the very right.

In 54" besides the Nomad I have a Browning Safari 1, two Shakespeare Super Necedahs and a York Thunderbolt that's on the way.

I have some 56" recurves(Browning Wasp and Explorer, a Darton Super Flite Hunter and a Grizzly) but they don't feel like a short bow to me-I draw the line at 54", but to each their own.

Get the impression that I like short bows? Oh yes...

Probably the first and finest production short bow of them all! This one is more of a custom though, fit for a museum of fine bows. The Drake Hunter-Flite. 54" and built around the early 60s.
