I will be moving into an apartment in Chantilly within a month and would like to start practicing with my bow more regularly. I'm finished with college classes and working a regular schedule, so I have more time to dedicated to this.

Do any of you know places that I could practice? I'm not familiar with the Fairfax County/Chantilly laws regarding recurve bows. If I need to pay a membership fee for an outdoor range or something, that's fine, I just can't afford anything too steep.

Thanks, I've lived in Northern VA for awhile. But I've been attending college in Loudoun County, which is a bit more rural than Fairfax. Fortunately I do not need to join the beltway rush because I am not working in DC.

A bunch of us get together most every Friday evening at the Bull run Shooting center indoor range(5:30-7:00). If you say your with our group, The SCA, you can shoot for $3.25 Also there is the IWLA in Centerville that has both indoor and outdoor archery but you have to be a member. Once the time changes we will move outdoors to Haymarket and shoot Mondays from 5:00 to dark.

I live in Tysons. I haven't shot at bull run since I was a kid. I shoot in my back yard now. not sure of the laws but nobody has called the cops on me yet.

Prince William is a great course as well and great indoor shooting during the winter. There are three indoor ranges within 30 miles of you all of which have leagues. You have 3 field courses within that same distance.

Was wondering how far it was from stafford VA. My daughter lives there and I go sometimes twice a year?

thanks: Ron

Is anyone here familiar with the Northern Virginia Archer's Club? Looks like they've got a pretty nice range and it's a flat $120 fee for a whole year.

That seems like a pretty good deal to me, once it warms up I'd like to try shooting once per week. Not sure if I'll have the time though.

I am familiar with NVAA. It is about ten minutes from my house and I have a friend who belongs. They do hold a lot of shoots and seem to have a pretty active trad group their. They have a really nice 3d field range (a lot of up and down hills) and leave the 3d targets out all year. They also have a nice practice range with targets from 15yds or so to around sixty. They also have a small club house. The only reason I am not a member is that they have no indoor range. I therefore joined the Izaac Walton league in Centerville that does have an indoor range.

Izaac Walton is a bit more expensive right?

I think some friends from college use an Izaac Walton pistol range. If you join, are you able to use all of their ranges? I'd be interested in learning more. We can continue over PM if you want.

NORVA is a great club.

They have the best 3d course in the area. Lots of ups and downs.

Worked there doing CATV in the early to mid 80's....

The elite politicians live there and think they are special..I can't tell you how many times we had the police called on us while working and hassled and treated like criminals every time.

And there are no laundromats in the town(at least back then) and they won't give a permit to business owner for one. You had to drive about 20 miles to wash clothes and it turned out some senator owned all those.

We got tickets for washing clothes in apt complexes.

You couldn't drag me back there with a team of wild horses.
