Recurve like longbows I really like to shoot a recurve mostly I think because I am more accurate with it, just feels better in my hand ( I love my tornado xlt from Bryce and mike) but I really like the weight sleek appearance and the quietness of a longbow. Still being very new to this (1 1/2-2yrs)I don't know a lot about what's out there. My question is who if anyone makes a one piece longbow 60-64" with a more recurve like grip? I am not a big fan of the hill bows owned a beautiful abbott just didn't fit. I currently have 2 dow/ emery Stik bows just looking for others Thanks Justin

The good news is it might be easier to tell you who does not make one with a recurve-like grip...I will start it off with one that I really liked and only sold because the original owner asked me to sell it back to him, a Schafer Silvertip

What camodave said. Lots of good ones out there. Check out Maddog Archery very affordable and people seem to like his bows a lot.

I was going to suggest Mike at Maddog as well...Mike prefers to make rather simple bows yet he is a true custom bowyer who will work with you to get you what you want...I have a feeling if you consider his static tip recurve you might find yourself losing interest in a longbow...you will find all of the qualities you are looking for in that bow...or you might want to consider one of these...I have shot some very quiet longbows and would put this static tip us against any of them in that category

I make a hybrid with a locater grip. Yes I feel recurves are easier to shoot also, probably why every body jump on them when they came out. Jeff

Another option Justin is to pick up a 17" ILF Riser (Dryad, TT Apex, etc..) Get you a set of recurve and longbow limbs. Your set to go then.

Mike-
I used to feel exactly like you did until I got a longbow with a good locator grip and really spent time with it. It wasn't long before I preferred the slim/sleek longbow locator grip to any recurve grip out there. You might disagree, but I would keep a longbow a longbow. best of luck.

Those are beautiful bows and all good ideas. I definitely want to stick with a one piece though. Never actually had my hands on a locator grip seems interesting. Dave that Schafer is gorgeous just very expensive to "try" I would hate to spend that kinda money and not like it. But that is exactly the image I had in my mind. Tim I thought the red stag was a recurve, I bought my wife one. Didn't know they had an lb as well. Nice shootin

OK, I Finally got the right foto, sorry about all the goof-ups, guys.8^/
THIS is the profile of a Samick Red Stag, the 68" mild D/R bow. It is approximately the same profile of handgrip that Camodave has in the first photo on this thread, but only costs $200 or so from Lancasters. The multi arrow foto I posted by mistake, is a 10-40yd walkback, so I guess its accurate enough, and the one out of the gold is the 40 yd shot. Good fitting handgrip area on the bow, I'd try one first, and not let the sub-hoity-toity $200 price tag fool you into thinking it's a cheapie. They are made with maple, walnut, and rosewood in the riser, ash and black glass in the limbs, black phenolic tip overlays. Rounded tips, not that pointy crap I hate.....and a nice hand-rub finish, not the glossy coffee table varnish you see a lot of. Pretty good longbow, IMHO.

I enjoy all bows, but there is something special about a longbow. I think I shoot them as well as my recurves, out to 20 yards or so. I have a Liberty Contender, 66" it kind of just points itself. Love carrying it through the woods. I also have a Maddog Prairie Predator coming. I couldn't get along with Hill styles either, but a little R/D is just great.

I love the grip on my Timberhawk Falcon, it just feels right over the other longbows I've shot and it shows in my accuracy with it versus more traditional style grips.

7 Lakes Archery uses the same grip for both Longbows and Recurves. Same size riser and everything. I love my 54" Sawed Off."

The timberhawk looks nice the grip looks a lot like a Savannah to me. Any shooters if both agree or disagree? Ran man moose I looked nice but it's a td I kinda have my mind set on a 1pc. And I love the look of the royal crown. If I had tons of money I wuld by a Schaffer and an royal crown and let them battle it out. Sadly that is just not the case and you don't see many of those used.

I have two Fox Triple Crowns. They shoot as smooth as any bow I've shot, but all longbows tend to be more sensitive to grip in my opinion. Now, I'm not talking about modern ILF longbows which are truly recurves.

There are a lot of good choices out there, some resemble a recurve more in the grip and riser, but are called longbows.
