Hi guys and thanks for helping me out. I am fairly new to traditional archery. Trying to learn all the woods. Bought this Wes wallace Mentor used and I am wondering what the different woods are in this bow. Previous owner had no clue. I am thinking the lighter wood part of the riser is cocobolo as well as the limb veneers. But I don't have a clue what the darker wood in the riser is? Any help would definitely be appreciated.

Need a pic. Cocobolo is usually a darker, reddish color...

Well that certainly looks like the riser wood on my bow. Still wondering what the darker riser wood and limbs are though

The darker wood in the riser looks like cocobolo. The rest of the wood in the riser looks like bacote ....as well as the limbs. Hard to tell for sure from your pic though. Maybe the bowyer could tell you?

Here's some Mexican cocobolo in a Fred Anderson Mojo recurve; it gets pretty dark.

I believe the darker riser is coco and maybe shedua for the lighter portion? Looks like Bocote limbs.

No reason that purplish wood in the riser would not be purpleheart...it would help to have a picture of the other side of he riser with less reflection and maybe another taken from the belly side of the bow...I agree the limb veneers are likely bocote...whatever it is that is a great looking bow...btw cocobolo can have a wide range of colouration...I have had coco that was very red and I have had coco that was very dark brown bordering on black...if you really want to get an education about woods check out hobbithouseinc.com...I go there frequently...Paul is just a nice guy who loves educating us all about wood and makes a huge effort to get the best information on a very inexact science (or is it an art?)

Bubinga on the left, purple heart on the right, maple accents. Just built one out of the same woods.

thanks guys sent some pictures to Wes wallace to get his opinion. I have a long bow with bocote limbs and the coloration is way lighter. Didn't know the bocote could have such a wide variation of color.
