Hi all.

Does anyone use a portable propane heater in their blinds? I have looked at couple which are marketed for hunting blinds/ice huts on-line, but when i see them in the store they stress that they are for outdoor porches etc. Are these safe for inclosed spaces?

I should point out that the online info comes from American retailers like Bass Pro and Cabelas and I live in Canada so the safety standards likely differ.

thanks, Tom.

As long as you are vented well you should have no issues. More danger comes from carbon monoxide than flame. Just open the windows enough to vent and you should have no troubles. Common sense prevails here....if you start to get sleepy..open the blind and get more air in. The danger is odorless.

check Mr. Heater (Heater Buddy). Safe for indoors. I use one in my van, alot. Needs only 9 square inches of fresh air ventilation. Has low oxygen, tip-over shut-offs. Be using it for years. Ray

I like the Mr. Buddy Heaters too. Light to carry and silent when in use.

I use a Mr. Heater Little Buddy in a pop-up blind for late seasons. They don't make any noise at all.

Tore down the neighbors 8'x8' play house & reconstructed a 7'x7' blind with a tall roof to accomodate longbows. The wife found this little wood stove at a antique sale. All the ash trees were dying in MI. from the emerald ash bore, so I had a whole bonch of these toothpick standing dead in the woods & chopped them up into 3 1/2" pcs. Many, many enjoyable warm hours spent out there. The wood smoke never bothered the critters. John

This rifle season there was a fatality in Missouri due to a propane heater (don't know what kind) blowing up in a blind. You might google it to get more info. As I remember it was about a week and a half ago.

Just be careful with them. Check them out thoroughly before attempting to light them. We just had a hunter killed here in Missouri when he lit his heater during our gun season. lareva

I have the mr heater little buddy, I'd get the bigger mr heater. It has two settings and 5000btu Lil buddy 3500btu one setting. With the windows open lil buddy still a little cold

Just be careful, I read article that two peopledied in two separate instances last weekend from heaters in their blind. Mr. Heater would be my choice, I use one in my camper, if you decide to use a bulk tank with the Mr. Heater, make sure you buy one of their filter units or you stand a high probability of ruining your unit, the oil in the tank will clog the safety shut off and it won't light again, I learned this first hand during a blizzard elk hunting.

Used mine just yesterday during WI. gun season. Great little heater. Just keep it away from your clothes and the blinds walls.

Those are the ones I've found too noisy... Unless you use them in those portable outhouses on stilts! We used one in a wall tent one season... Couldn't even sleep due to the noise. Don't see how they wouldn't spook deer.

I have used them for gun hunting but never tried one for archery. Ventilation is important with propane. If you find yousekf yawning with frequency, you need more ventilation. It is an indication that you are not getting enough ioxegen.

Love my Lil Buddy heater! My MHLB makes very very little noise. I use it for archery season in an ABS blind. And have enjoyed using it in my Cabelas Predator blind. I have had deer within 2 feet of my blind. I would suggest that if your heater makes that much noise you may have a serious issue.

The "Little Buddy" should be perfect for blind use if properly ventilated. I have used a "Big Buddy" in my hunting trailer for several years without incident. Mr. Buddy makes great products.
