I happened to pick up a 2015 Martin catalog the other day to look at the traditional section. It was disappointing to see that none of the nice Martin/Howatt bows once offered are no longer being made. Sad.... DaveP

It's possible that they have separated catalogs - Martin for compounds and Damon Howatt for traditional.

or it could be that they have nobody capable of making them any longer. there were only two people with any experience at all left there. 1 glue-up guy with medical problems and 1 all around guy that all the physical work fell on. there was nobody left that could design a bow, lams, or even make a press form. there has not been a "howatt" bow from there for 2 years.

Martin's online store shows most of the DH bows. I suppose it's updated as it shows bows being instock.

Sometimes I wonder why anyone even bothers writing here. Larry Hatfield said no Howatts for at least two years!!! He also said no one currently employed there knows HOW to build a traditional bow. So to me at least, it matters little what they currently catalogue.

Charles, they are advertising bows so it doesn't hurt to try to find out where they are coming from. If not the Howatt factory, then where? Curious minds, you know.

they are not anything like the original howatt bows. for instance, the gail martin bow was being made on a hunter press, not the original press and lams. they just altered the riser section to resemble the bow that gail and i put together. the lams in the longbows are not the original lams don jewett and i designed. they may call them howatt bows but they are a far cry from the bows made by the howatt crew.

Made in the USA does not by itself mean Quality. Free market. Of course buy what you like. I was only pointing out that the person with the most knowledge concerning Howatt bows, was in MHO not being herd. When Mr. Hatfield gives his opinion on bows he designed and or helped build I listen.

When Mr. Hatfield gives his opinion on anything I listen...we are lucky to have someone of his vast knowledge and experience posting here...I am sure he has better things to do most of the time
