Just wondering if anyone out there has a bow with red elm limbs under clear glass (either edge or flat grain) - I'd be interested in seeing what it looks like, so please post some pics if you have them. Thanks!

My goodness, for a long time a lot of bowyers used it under clear. I really like it, it's subtle (not like moving protozoa) and very classy. I've owned several that had it, including a Robertson Longbow from the 90's, and a Dave Guthrie recurve plus others. Here's a thread from three years ago with some photos.

George, I just took a look at the thread, thanks. Ok, I'm sold on red elm. I have a Wes Wallace on order, coming up in Feb., ordered it with red elm limbs, I was second-guessing myself but no more, I'll run with the red elm.

Another Mentor - bubinga riser with black ebony accent stripe, red elm limbs, gloss finish. This one deviates from my other two mentors in that it's going to be 66" long and 44lb@28 (my other two are 64" and 52lb@28). This will be more of a competition bow for winter 3D. Also, I'm thinking this will be my 'old age' bow, as I'm 48 yrs old and I don't think I'll be pulling 57 lb at my draw length forever, I'll have to drop down sooner or later. In fact, now that I think about it, I'll need to order a 40lb Mentor for when I'm 75 yrs old - glad I thought of it! I'm sure my wife will understand... Really, I only need one bow, this new one is just an addition to my art collection, I really love those mentors.
After years of shooting bows in the 58" to 60" length range, I'm finding long bows (recurves in the 64" range) just shoot better for me, and the extra length isn't a handipcap for me at all for hunting.

red elm edge grain cores and flat sawn under clear on the faces was really a Custom upgrade before the recent years of veneers-red elm is right there with maple as a glasscore wood performer and gives you some color.
