Just after Elk season ended here in Oregon I was realy missing being in the field. So I looked into bird hunting with a recurve.

As I studied this and how others here approached this type of hunting I decided that I needed a light weight side or back quiver to use. I'm a bit of a DIY guy so research on quivers and all the different style proved that there are advantages to both a side and back style.

I found a You Tube video from a gentleman that used a old wool blanket as donor matrial. The way he put it together made a lot of sense. So I stared gathering materials.

I picked up some scrap wool cloth, found some leftover leather from another project and old 1" nylon strap with hardware. (Plastic) I then drew a sketch of what I wanted so I could plan out how to sew it up and assemble. As I thought about it I had some questions about how to set up to join the wool and leather together and what parts to construct frist.

I have a good fried who's wife is a very talented seamstress ,so I asked her to give me some advice on this project. As we talked it over she took some scrap fabric and made a mockup of how things would go together . After about a hour we had a plan and I knew what I was going to do. Mary then took all my materials away and said she would call me when it was done.

Couple of nights ago Bob called and said it was ready for me to pick up. This is what I got back. Needless to say I'm very happy with how it turned out. And it's looks much better than I would have been able to craft. And she added the embroidery because she said it looked unfinished just plain.

Thanks Goerge. I should point out the crooked sinew stitching along the top is all me, not Mary's handy work...

PS: when ya want to make a quiver..the mock up..even it's with heavy brown paper..does really help get it all planned so it fits you and hangs wright..:) Jim

Jim it depends on where I'm hunting, out in the open grassy draws or along the edges of the wheat field then yes on my back. But in back of the house along the river were its brushy I like it on my side. I find it easier to grab it and the arrows and work though the brush.

Kevin..I like the belt hanging side quivers best for hunting and roving here in the 'wetside' of Ory-Gun..:) Jim
