Here are a couple of pictures of my Howatt High Speed Ne Plus Ultra. It's a sweet bow. Any idea when it was made?

Thanks - John

Larry can probably tell you who made it and when.. At one time he sent me the old designations of what the letters and numbers denoted on the older Damon Howatt bows..Bowyer's names and years.. I misplaced it sad to say..Jim

that appears to be an 1961 with a full pistol grip. bowyer was probably peter braur. he had the number 1 at that time.

Thank you both for the quick replies. It's amazing to me that a bow that is older than me can still shoot so well. It's also good to know the additional information about it. - John

Here's one that's headed my way right now; an old Hunter with that rounded-away sight window... and some pretty sweet rosewood.

And here's the s/n; almost the same as yours, Fisher! But I'm thinking mine might be a '63? I'd ask Larry for help but he'll probably run off to Cambodia on me again and lose some more fingers...

Wow! that's some pretty rosewood Kerry. In my opinion, they shoot as good as they look too. The first picture didn't do my bow justice, so here's another shot that shows the grain better. I'm sure you'll like it (if the USPS doesn't lose it). - John

Nice... looks like a one-piece riser in yours. By the time they made mine they were picking up rosewood scraps off the shop floor and gluing them up, LOL. I wonder if that was Larry's idea...

I think mine is made up of three pieces, but they did a real good job of it. - John

Concur with Larry, 1961.

we didn't glue up that many one piece ones with brazilian rosewood. the grain on the real stuff goes in every direction and it was prone to breakage. the glue line interupted the grain enough to improve strength. we tried to simply saw all the pieces in order from one piece of 8/4 but a lot of times, because of rot or other defects, we had to use some mis-matched pieces. as our stock dried up due to the prohibition of sales of 8/4, or anything that had not been sawed down almost to veneer, we just used what we had.
