I had one day to bowhunt before the rifle season comes in the 24th of November. Wednesday I watched the weather, for yesterday, the weather report was sunny, high 40F and breezy. Yesterday, I got into my stand and by 10:30 a.m. the wind blew so danged hard, I almost got sea sick from swaying back and forth. By 3:30, I got down out of my stand, the temp. had dropped to around 38, with wind gusts, so bad that there were dead branches falling from trees, and leaves blowing in waves. Then last night the weather report said high wind gusts today(Friday). Today is breezy, but not like yesterday when there was high wind gusts. Wind gusts must have been 24 hours early. O'Well, that's my bowhunting until the last week in December. I reckon the weather makes fools out of all of us, even the weather reporter.

Especially the wether reporters! All I know is if I was wrong as much as they are in my job I would be fired! I think where they really became laughable is when they started doing 5-7 day forcasts. Gimmie a break.....they are lucky to get the next day! Regards.

I've been telling my sons, if you want to know what the weather is going to be, just walk outside and look up! You have 100% more chance of getting it right.LOL

I wonder if they predict what Buffalo, N.Y. got, before it happen?

From: DT1963

I don't know why they even try to post 7 day forecasts.... they can't even get the next day right 50% of the time around these parts.

From: Foo-E

A true fact..... After 72 hrs the weather man is only 5% correct!

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

They got the lake effect snow right....they just said that the potential would probably be measured in feet, not inches. That was crazy to watch those time-lapse videos of the snow bands coming across the lakes.

Old Crow, THAT'LL teach not to climb up a tree and sit in November..:) Even squirrels don't do that..:(

Humorously..the weather people are one of the few vocations where a fellow with a degree( or a gal) can give accurate predictions 5% of the time and STILL keep their job..:)Jim

Anyone remember that Eagles' Don Henley song line that goes "I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear"...!!!

All we here are doing is just hoping for a decent set-up tomorrow, and a decent shoot Sunday. Whatever happens, though, will happen...

Its all like a really fun game. I watch the weather just to have a laugh when they get it wrong (-:

I want a job were its ok to be 50% (or less) correct,so for tomorrow im going to forecast the weather, partly cloudy with a chance of sunshine, highs will be 5 degrees above or below normal ,with a chance of freezing rain or snow depending on the temp. how did i do?

I'ts hard to trust them thats why each of us need to learn how to read the weather ourselves. Watch the patterns and clouds as well as directions of fronts and you can get better than average idea.

Seems to me they ramp things up so much as they create drama on TV. I'd like to know how we have a cold front bitter cold then a bermuda high a few days later in the 70's. Its insaine all these weather patterns. Watching NY. and the lake effects and feets of snow hammered up to North its hard to fathom.

I'm thinking those funny long billed birds are going to be loaded up with them they migrated from the north early. A lot of animals and birds and wildlife are going to die also from all that snow. there will be a great deal of work and buisness from it all too.

No wonder people leave the cold to go to the warm but its been cold in the warm areas as well to.LOL

RymanCat..that kinda sums it up..:)

Yes the weatherman in Buffalo was very accurate. I live in Angola about 20 miles south of the city. We got over 4 feet of snow from tues morn until wed night. Then we got another 33 inches on thurs. My son and I were shoveling snow off the roof today. Barns and carport roofs are caving in. Stores and a factory roof caved in today. We've had a travel ban in effect since tues morn. Now its supposed to start raining Sun, Mon, and Tues.

I was watching the report on upstate new York. What was weird was that one town had 75 inches of snow and less than 20 miles away 2 towns had 7 inches and one had 8 inches.

OC heres a case of weatherman gone way wrong. We went to bed it was supposed to get down to 50 degrees and be dry with no precipitation in sight. We set up camp and went to bed to this.

And this is how we got back to town once they found us. Our 4x4 was useless in the rockys with 20ft drifts in places.

From: Woods Walker

But yet they are telling us what the climate will be like in 10 or 20 years. RIIIIIGHT.....they can't even get 10 or 20 HOURS right on a consistant basis.

Being a weatherman is the only job one can have where you can be wrong on a regular basis and yet still have a job.

I have 3 different weather channels t and hey don't agree. I have stayed home several times because 80% rain and high winds were predicted only to wake up to sunny windless days. Anymore I get up and stick my head out to see what it is actually doing

"Anymore I get up and stick my head out to see what it is actually doing"

YUP! You got it.

I've worked outdoors for the past 40+ years and I'm at the point where I really don't need the weatherman anymore. I will check it but most of the time I already know what's coming. I don't even consciously think about it anymore, but I'm automatically aware of things like the wind directions, clouds, barometric pressure, humidity, etc. and that's what makes me seem like I can "feel" the changes.

The National Weather Service, Pittsburgh, PA, has an ongoing program (by Richard Kane, NOAA/NWS, Pittsburgh) to train "SKYWarn Weather Spotters", volunteers who report actual ongoing weather conditions to their office. I've taken the classes (as a Volunteer Amateur Radio Operator communicator), but have found the information taught and explained to be extremely helpful in deciphering what will be the encountered weather, especially if I have plans for shooting outside, or attending an event. The National Weather Service is NOT a commercial broadcaster, so you don't get all the hype. At least in the Pittsburgh region, their forecasts are very good, and, through their training, I am more confident in my preparations for outside conditions. This might be something some of my fellow Archers might consider....

Our four local TV news stations give a new 5 day weather forcast everyday. If they actually new and were really that sure about it, they shouldn't have to give another 5 day forecast for 6 days. When they are wrong with the forecast (as in most of the time) , they just keep a smilin and a talkin. Reminds me of our country's current leaders.

"Give us dirty laundry."..:)

As a side note..Even IF the TV weather people are not highly accredited..or accurate..

The cute gals in snug fitting dresses with nice smiles can keep my attention during the weather forecast..

I soon forget anything but the visual effects they send out..You know,,the maps with the arrows etc..:) Jim
