I noticed the last time I shot my longbow that there is a small crack in the veneer of my longbow. It is at the top of the riser area and only on the one side, as in it does not go all the way through. What should I do about it?

Soak some super glue into it.

Based on what I can see from your photo, it doesn't look like the crack is in the working part of the limb so that's good. I would use Loctite 420, which is super thin and will penetrate the crack. Clamp it for a several hours, touch up the finish if necessary and you should be good to go.

Had one like that in an old Zebra...above the arrow rest. Showed it to Craig Ekin when I lived in Mt. He said it was terminal. It will get worse....and then go BANG! I have a Dwyer in the same cond. ....only it's in the middle of the lower limb .

If I glue it how long should it last? Or will that just depend on how well the glue gets in there?

Robert, when you draw the bow, does the crack open up any at all?

Can you lift the wood at the crack with your finger nail?

If the crack will separate any at all then you should get very good penetration with Loctite 420. The stuff is like water and will draw into an opening quite well. Typically, a good glue joint is stronger than the wood, so the bow should be sound for a long time if the repair is done properly. It's hard to tell much about it though from the one photo.

There are no certain answers to your question only opinions. And in my opinion I'd fix it with 420 and keep an eye on it. I'd suspect it will last a long time but you never know.

No I can't really lift or separate the crack. But I will see if I can find something to do that. Thanks for all of your help guys

I just fixed a tip that was kind of split/crushed...didn't know it was like that when I bought it...starting to delaminate a bit and one side had the lams cracked.

Anyway, spread the split tip open as best I could and judiciously applied Loctite 420 into the separation with a syringe as advised by Bowdoc, then let it dry.

I was gobsmacked with how well it worked...that tip is now as solid as the day it was made and has not moved after 75 shots..LocTite 420 should be the 8th Wonder of the World!!

It wicked into the crack like nothing and there was not much of an opening at all.

Mine started like that...then it went through another lam, and up through the glass on the back layer last. Locktite did NOT fix it! The riser does bend some in those areas believe it or not!
