Now this isn't a recurve vs longbow post. To be honest I simply LOVE longbows and wood arrows. BUT I shoot so much better with a recurve it's silly. I can't get pretty decent if I practice a lot with the longbows. But I can keep real sharp with the recurves even when life happens and I can't shoot as much as I'd like. And I'm admittedly fascinated by the Fred Bear era of bowhunting. I read his field notes and was captivated. I like the maneuverability too. That said I wish I could master the longbow as well. There's just something about them. BUT I think the recurve chose me lol.

Meant I can get pretty decent lol. Stupid fat fingers

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

Define pretty decent. 8^). Does it really matter? You need to follow what works for you. Maybe a year down the road you'll have another thread about how you just discovered longbows. Hell, it's all good.

I feel the same way!

From: Panzer

Or you could do what a lot of other people do and that is to take a recurve riser, put longbow limbs on it and call it a longbow. You get the best of both.

From: Rooty

It's a back and forth battle for sure. Glad I have both

From: born2hunt
Date: 17-Nov-14

Yea me too rooty. I shoot both and enjoy the heck out of them. The recurves just like me more i think lol.

I love my long bow but just like you guys, I shoot better with a recurve. Then, I have shot a recurve all my life and only began shooting a long bow about five years ago.

I would be quite happy if I could have only a long bow...spoiled though...and have both.

I often say I'm a recurve guy, but inevitably forget that and take up the longbow again. Love it all, but generally shoot the curves better. Someday I'll put in the time with the longbow that it deserves.

From: RymanCat

It is a battle isn't it.LOL

I love them too and have enough of them but seem to just shoot the recurves no real reason though just something I find myself doing.

From: bigdog21

Put up the recurve you no you can shoot it and dedicate a year to the longbow and see how you fill took me a long time but know my favorite of bows.

From: BOHO

I got the best of both worlds. Toelke's grip is the best ever. Try a Whip or if you want a 3 piece, Lynx with longbow limbs.

Well Howard Hill said longbows were easier to shoot. Go figure.,

From: Barber

I am the same way. I love my White Wolf longbow more than any bow I own. Out to 20 yards I can group good with it . But then I can pick up my Hoyt Buffalo and have arrows smacking one another out to 35 yards with ease . I eaven put down the recurve for about 6 months and shot only my longbow, then pulled out my recurve one day and it was like I never put it down . I was agervated that I was still not grouping with my longbow as good as my recurve but was glad that the recurve comes so easy to me. It's a love hate thing ! But I do love just shooting bows.

From: Stumpkiller

I'm a recurve guy, too. But they are getting good at disguising recurves as longbows that appear to be straight-limbed when strung and have comfortable grips and center-cut risers.

What will they think of next? ;-)

I am in the same boat. I love the slim sexy lines of a longbow and Douglas Fir arrows. But, I just shoot recurves better. I love shooting both! But, I just flat out shoot a recurve better. I will never stop shooting longbows and woodies. But longbows like me better.

I shoot my longbow pretty well but I started with a recurve and to this day that's my first love in archery. There's nothing so beautiful as a good recurve at full draw.

Admittedly I too shoot more accurately with a recurve but, do love the longbow and history that goes with it. My BigJim Desert Bighorn at approx. 15yds. Best bow I've shot hands down.

I'm the opposite and shoot longbows better Bill

The local archery club always has the same general results. Recurves typically out-score longbows. It has always fascinated me that celebrity archers, like Hill and Ferguson, are longbow shooters. All the more impressive. I don't know of one high- profile (performer) recurve shooter today. I wonder why that is. Ooh, there is that one lady who shoots a recurve with her feet over her head :^)

From: two4hooking

I'm with Bullfrog...shoot longbow better.

From: George D. Stout Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

There are and were recurve shooters who were in the limelight. If you are not familiar with Bob Markworth, you should google his name and see his mark in archery. There are several actors and actresses that are recurve shooters as well...again, do some research. Frank Addington is on here inviting people to his free shows all the time and he shoots recurves. Stacy Groscup, one of the finest archers of all time and trick shooter/aerial shooter used a recurve bow.

I say I shoot "longbows", but if you unstring them they look a lot like recurves. :)

From: South Farm

I'm with ya! I've drooled over many a longbow (especially Dwyer) in my day, but for whatever reason I just don't shoot a longbow well, so it's been all recurves for me. It's all good!

From: dire wolf
Date: 20-Nov-14

HMMM..I have made and own and shoot both types of stickbows..

I shoot either type well..tho they are different in many ways..:)

Somewhat like the differences between a gal who is 5'8" and weighs 130#s and another who is 5' nuthin and weighs 140#s..:)

Long as the fit is good..you treat 'em right and smile at one another?..It's all good..:) Recurves do have a few more curves than the longbow...Jim

Diver1.. Of course not!..I refer to my wife of many years as 'Rubenesque'( that stumps 'em..:) or 'cherubic'.. She's one of the 5' nuthin gals with a good heart..:) My recurves all have great curves and lines..:)Jim

and one of my favorite longbows..Only 62 " but I draw it 30"..Zebra Safari made after Louie Armbruster's patterns by Doug Duncan..It also is over 70#@30"..Jim

Given time to get accustom to a bow (either one) I will shoot one as good as the other,

BUT

I am drawn to the extra performance & shapely curves of the recurve. I like wild, pretty, & curvy women also. 8^)

Rick's got it right-- we're hard-wired to love those curves, lol.

From: GLF

Yep those recurves will shoot. I saw Stacy Groscup at the OBA state shoot back about 30 years ago in McArthur, Ohio shooting aspirins outa the air with a little short Kodiak Magnum.

Long and slender, graceful and powerful for me :-)

Now ..don't make me take pics of my Damon Howatt Hi Speed 'ne plus ultra'..or my Groves Spitfire magnum..:) Than you'd drool and Frisky would know he DOESN'T have the holy grain of bows..:) Jim
