Sorry Elbow that I'm a little late to the dance on that longbow that you purchased in Sept. But I think I can help you with some history on that bow. I built it. How y'all doing? By looking at your photos its my belief that that bow was built in 94 as a demo bow and is 1 of 5 I built that year to take to Cloverdale. The reason I think this is: A it has no name on it and B it does not have RH glass. All of which would have been a custom order. It is one of my early "carbon" longbows. It has 2 strips of carbon one under each piece of glass facing and backing. With out seeing the bow or my record book (which I no longer have another story for another day) I'm not sure what your cores are. That bow sold for 650 in its day. In your post I did not see what your intent was to do with this bow. My only concern is if you plan on shooting it, is the string that is on it. If that's a Flemish fast flight string she should be good to go. If that's Dacron on that bow you ain't going to like it. It will rock your bow hand like a 44 mag on overloads and vibrate like a tuning fork after that! Damndest thing you'll ever see a bow do. The strings for one of my carbon longbows should always be a "padded" loop fast flight string. With light to moderate weight arrows at 45# she is capable of upper 190's to maybe 200+fps. She will be no slouch either with heavier arrows for hunting.

I want to thank Joebuck for his very kind words, see he is still active in this. But I wish to set the record straight on my Dad. He was a self taught bowyer. He never worked for Groves or Earl Hoyt. My Dad however was a big fan of Mr. Hoyt and I have stories of his visits to Mr. Hoyts shop when he was still working out of his garage! In fact when I cleaned out Dads house after his passing there was left over "Pantherglass" that my father had purchased from Mr. Hoyt possibly in the early to mid 50's. Wish the hell I'd kept it!

As a side note. In June of 2013 on my way to work I had the privilege of harvesting a fine doe with my Harley Davidson. Of the deer I have taken I really do not recommend this method. Could have went either way! LOL. Got a nice ride to the hospital after being scraped up off the pavement. Spent a few days there with this nice little button pump gadget. After I got home was hobbling around the house trying to make a pot of coffee. Seen this damn old man looking back at me in a mirror. Took a step back and done some reflecting on my life, things I've done and what I've missed the most. I have truly missed the people in Traditional Archery. You all are the salt of the earth!

In the last few months I have googled searched my name to see what pops up. Seen where a fellow in Australia had 2 of my bows and a damn nice pig he had harvested with one. Done it again and you came up Elbow with an early Intruder. It has given me a great amount of satisfaction to see the equipment I built years ago still being used and talked about today. Guess maybe by getting out from under my rock and on a website you all can get a hold of me with questions, comments. Or if you have an old burr underneath your saddle that needs resolved, the door is open.

Y'all take care Todd Scherrinsky Oldbowyer

Todd, we met 20 some years ago at a shoot in Rensselaer and I loved your bows then. Short takedown recurves were hot then. Glad to see you survived your deer/motor cycle experience and looking forward to following this thread and others you contribute to.

Todd..I appreciated your story behind the story..I didn't know there were ANY Polish boyers out there..:)..( My wife of many years is Polish--Jankowski)..

I'd enjoy knowing more about your bowyery ventures over the years..I'm an old bowyer of sorts also..but like lovemaking, I never sought to do it for a living..just for the fun of it!..Jim

This one I made form for based on the old early 50's Bear-Grumley influenced statics..Has 52 different pieces of wood-glas in it's construction..Only made 3 of them..This one is my own 77#@30"..Jim

Got to go to Rensselear one time a fellow by the name of Bob Chapman and a friend of his was competing there with my bows. SES do you know if Bob is still around?

Well Jim still don't know if there are any Polish bowyers out there, My paternal Grandfather was from Germany! Sure one will show up sometime LOL Love the look of your recurve what's its length? Seen a very old Bear years ago. It had been made in Grayling( think that's where he was once). I don't think it glass on it and it was a static recurve.

Was working with static and semi-static recurves about the time I quit, see if I could get the noise down and still have a fast bow. My other recurves were "full working" revurves. This is critical as a bow gets shorter to keep it from stacking. And yes they are loud silencers are required! So is a Black Widow! Anyway the first one I built the ears were at a 90, managed to harvest a mule deer with it before it delaminated. Radius was just to tight. Revamped the form and built another one that I have on my wall, its a 56" bow. Was getting ready to sell a few of them and they quit selling carbon bias, which I needed to keep the ears straight. Revamped the form again and I sold 1 of them to a fellow in TN. I also took my 1pc Intruder form and copied 2/3rds of it, turned that into a recurve. Made it look a lot like my dads early bows. Its a semi-static bow. Still have 1 of those. Fellow in GA has the only other one I built.

Nice hearing from you fellows, this is what I've missed the most. Pray for BKW's wife!

Todd..OLDBOWYER,

Sorry for presuming that your heritage was Polish with 'ski' end of your name..:)Hope no offense taken..:)

The statics I made are all NTN 68"..Pretty much like this old Bear Grizzly of mine which is still shooting strong and 71#@30"..The several I made are a bit more colorful with laminated risers of osage, purpleheart, walnut etc..but pretty faithful to the original ones..and mine have clear glas..:)Jim

Thx..I've made a few bows over the years that were exceptional.. Some of my favorites were yew selfbows with cow horn nocks and flemish 3 splice strings of the english sort..with the 'buchanan dips' rather than bend thru handle type..

In over 50 years of enjoying archery and related ventures...I've learned much from many other archers & bowyers who preceded me in archery..so none of my accomplishments were done without help from those who came before me..Jim
