Folks, right around the corner, the 2015 Pre-Spring Arrow Fling will be upon us.

Some of us are still hunting, some are finished for the year, either way, I think we'll all be ready to get out and get rid of that "Cabin Fever".

NOW, get ready! One of the hosts will no longer be the "Allsouth Archery Association". That host has given way to the "American Traditional Archer", an association that has been formed to promote Traditional Archery events all around the country.

And of course, "Compton Traditional Bowhunters" will also be co-hosting this fun event. As we all know, Compton's has done an outstanding job promoting and giving back to traditional archery not only in our country, but has helped promote traditional archery outside our country as well.

For those of you that were here last year, the kids program that Compton held here was unbelievable.

I'll be putting forth an outstanding Vendors list for you ASAP.

The dates for this event are FEBRUARY 27th, 28th & MARCH 1st, 2015. It will again be held at TANNEHILL HISTORICAL STATE PARK. Their web-site is www.tannehill.org

I know I can put lots of photos, and I will be, but I'm gonna start with our great chili supper on Saturday night. Free of course to our participants and Vendors.

And, right after that delicious chili, we'll be drawing winning raffle tickets for what I'm sure will be some great packages again this coming year.

Were those kettles made at the iron works at Tannehill?

From: THarris
Date: 14-Nov-14

Nope, the fellow on the left, my Cajun buddy, Johnny Stelly brings them.

He's a great cook, my only problem is I'm not sure what all he cooks when he's camp cookin' :-)

But trust me, I know what goes in the chili and it's fantastic!

I live in NE wisconsin, and by the end of feb. i am most definitly sick of winter, and this shoot would be the cure. Its a 900mile drive for me, is it going to be worth it? are we talking lots of people and venders, is this comparable to the mi Compton shoot or Denton Hills? This shoot has really got my interest, any info about it would be great. thanks Dave

Dave, this coming year will mark the 6th annual Pre-Spring Arrow Fling. The average attendance over the past three years been approximately 500 participants.

In my opinion, some of the best Vendors in the business have attended this event.

Here are a few that have been here and hopefully plan on coming for 2015.

Acadian Woods Bows ~ Bear Archery ~ Black Widow Bow Co. ~ Big Jim's Bow Co, ~ Traditional Archery Sales ~ Byron Ferguson ~ Hunters Image ~ Eagles Flight ~ Kim Sha Archery ~ Northern Mist Longbows ~ Zipper Bows ~ JET Archery ~ Primitive Archer Magazine and many others.

Hopefully you can make it. If you PM me your email, I'll email you a preliminary flyer.

Doug, we stayed at Sleep Inn, just off 459 in 2013. It was relatively inexpensive and very nice. Restaurants nearby and about 8 miles to the park.

Thanks George. Doug, George is right, there are six very nice motels close to Tannehill, Sleep Inn 205-424-0000 & Comfort Inn 205-428-3999, both give good discounts when you mention the archery event at Tannehill State Park.

I've been to all but one Pre-Spring shoot. This really is a great shoot to attend. Terry and his crew work really hard to make it that way. The weather is usually pretty mild, highs in the low 50's and no bugs. It's a great chance to visit with friends, do a little camping and sling some arrows! I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with it.

The great thing about the Pre-Spring Arrow Fling, we have access to ALL OF FARLEY FIELD!!

There is also three other great camp grounds in the Park itself.

On the other side of this bathroom building is where "Iowa Cedar Shooter" was camping, the stream ran behind him.

The bridge coming into Farley Field is to the right of this photo.

Folks, just found out today that Tannehill State Park has added four primitive cabins.

A local KOA Campground (no longer in business) donated them to the Park. They're located in the rear area of Campground # 3. Three of them will sleep two & one will sleep four.

They all have window A/C and for cold weather they each have a portable floor heater that really does a good job. No running water or restroom, PRIMITIVE, but not far from the bathhouse in campground 3.

They are close enough to Farley Field, you can walk to it.

The cost is $40.00 per night for the two sleepers and $45.00 for the four sleeper.

The cabins are really quite nice with a grill right outside and a nice front porch.

First come first serve. Tannehill's number is 205-477-5711

Hi Harold, no problem :-)

Primitive camping at Tannehill State Park is $16.00 per night, a 15% discount for Sr. if 62 or older.

The shooting rates for the weekend are as follows. For a family of four, $55.00, as many rounds shot over the entire weekend. A single weekend rate is $35.00 and per round rate is $15.00 if someone just wants to pay by the round.

There will be 3 ranges with a total of 36 McKenzie targets throughout. Twelve targets per range spread out on some beautiful property.

Here is Tannehill State Park's web-site: www.tannehill.org

Hope you can make it.

Legends Bows ~ Northern Mist Longbows ~ Big Jim's Bow Co. ~ Bear Archery Products and 3Rivers Archery have all donated one of their bows.

Over the past several years, I been able to donate approximately $25,000.00 to this camp. The money has been used to greatly improve tails, latrines, build pavilions and other improvements.

Interesting thing, yesterday it was 65 and beautiful. If we could just stick to one temperature it would be great.

Well, looking well ahead from aacuweather, the weather in McCalla, AL looks outstanding for the three day event. Highs from the upper 50's to mid 60's and mostly sunny.

I know things can change that far out, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Ronald, the weather for next weekend has changed daily over the past three days.

Right now, the highs on Friday & Saturday show to be in the mid to high 40's and Sunday low to mid 50's.

Chances of rain are light & fluctuating, all in all I think the weather will be fine. I'll have fire wood for some camp fires as well as a fire ring close to the registration area.

I also plan on having a couple of hot water urns with hot chocolate and instant coffee on hand (free of course).

Harold, this is a non-competitive shoot with only one stake just to keep you in line with the targets. If you want to shoot close, shoot close.....if you want to shoot far, shoot far.

Just, keep in line with the target!

George, Rhonda and I went on a food scouting mission yesterday evening. We ate at the Railroad Cafe to check it out for you.

We'll go back, varied menu for you. The butter beans and creamed corn were excellent.

By the way folks, the young lady with the concession trailer will be serving spaghetti & meatballs, salad with rolls & tea on Friday night for just $7.00 a plate for those that don't want to cook or leave the Park for supper.

She's a very good cook folks.

David, sorry you can't make it, the weekend weather looks to shaping up very nicely.

I also spoke with Matt who is taking one of the cabins.

Folks, Terry Lightle with the "Nocking Point", he won't be able to make it. Getting home from an event, his transmission blew not far from his home.

I hate that for him and certainly understand him not being able to make it, but, if had to happen, I'm glad he was getting home and not coming here. At least he's home safe.

Terry,

I don't think I've seen you post what the registration fee is to shoot. If you have, I haven't spotted it in the discussion. Would you be able to speak to that or point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Rush

From: THarris

We had about 7" of snow Wednesday night here in the middle of NC and it didn't melt yesterday. Getting out of the driveway is probably the biggest challenge, but we decided it would be best not to head out there with this crazy weather. Sorry Terry, but maybe latter this year. It's always good to get down there.

I'm sitting in the shop now with my Asbell wool jacket on. They sure are nice when the weather's cold. Thanks Teresa.
