I just ordered some bcy x string material and am wondering how many strands people are using? Searching through Google and the archive on here the range goes from 14 to 22. I will be using on bows from 50 to 63 pound draw so I was thinking 16 or 18 maybe, either padded in the loops to 22. Does that seem about right to those of you that have used it?

Also, as far as nock fit goes, I currently have .020 serving material and use Easton super nocks. Am I going to have to double serve, or build up the center somehow?

Thanks for any help

I use 18 strands. No padding in the loops. It's not needed.

I have used 18 and 20 strands with .021 Halo. I am planning to stay with 20 for nock fit. These are endless strings.

This will be my first time using "high performance" string material. I was using B 55, how much smaller will 18 strands of bcy x compared to 14 strands of b55?

Maybe Rooty will chime in...he probably has as much experience making strings with BCY-X as anyone on this site...it is pretty small diameter material and I have at least a couple of strings that are 24 strands

I use 16 strands with .24 Halo to fit Gold tips - up to 55#. 18 strands of BCYX = about 10 of D97. No idea of the b55 equivalent but it is a small dia material.

I have been using BCY-X 14 strands on my bows 50# and under, using 16 strands on my bows from 51 to 55#.Padded loops to 22 strands on both and serve with Diamondback .030 on my 14 strand, gives me excellent nock fit for my Easton 3D Super nocks. And use Halo .024 on my 16 strand strings.Haven't made any for my heavier bows yet but will increase the strands for them.

Your in the ball park with 22 strands and .019 halo for s or super nocks. Halo lays flat so I don't know about your .020 serving.

Your probably better off to go with 21 strand three bundle for a less wavy serving with 20 ish serving. I use 24 halo for 2 bundle 18-20 depending on what nocks I am using

Thanks everybody, it seems like I am probably going to be amazed at how small the material is when it gets here

We run 24 strands with .021 halo.

One thing that we know but forgot to mention is that one gives up little to nothing when it comes to velocity by sticking with relatively high strand counts of this material...I am not a stringmaker in any sense but my understanding is that any time you can avoid padding loops or serving area you make your life a whole lot easier

Dave is right. X is a super light weight material, and tiny diameter, so even at the higher strand counts (18 - 21) it is still a small diameter & light weight string.

X is a great material, but I find it isn't as friendly to building flemish strings as some of the other materials are, so since all I do is flemish I stick with a material that suits the purpose better for me, yet never to the extent of giving up performance or stability.

Padding loops & serving area is easily done when you get your process for doing them down, so not really a big deal for me.

Yes 24 strands with .021 halo. Finding that 22 strand with .021 halo is quieter. Could it have something to to with the longer tapers?

Trying to get.021 halo out of the UK they keep sending me .018 pi$$ed

Don't get me wrong guys. X is good stuff, but no better than what I am using. It's a little harder to handle in the build for flemish strings, so no reason for me to change.
