Ohhh Buzz, you're taking me back to my childhood now. Robin Hood was "must see" T.V. for me, my brothers and all my friends. How many kids around the world picked up or made a bow as a result of watching that series ??? ... I know I did.
Nowadays I love watching those old movies and picking out all the howling archery mistakes. The best example I can give is the Alan Ladd film The Black Knight .. glass backed Howard Hill bows in 13th century England ... priceless

If you log into Youtube with Firefox, you can download all of those. There were several Robin Hood TV series over the years.
Mistakes? They are endless in Flynn's "The adventures of Robin Hood". That one is still my favorite RH flick...but is full of editing gaffs. Robin starts a fight with 5 arrows in the quiver, shoots 13 arrows, then rides off with five arrows in the quiver. When Will Scarlett rescues Much in the woods, look in the background...there is a white truck driving down the road behind them. And what the heck is with Will Scarlett's caricature lute! It has no strings, the headstock was a 3D version of a 2D illustration..and had no tuning keys (well, I guess because it had no strings?). And don't look at half of their bows. The list is endless.
Don't forget the movie 'Men In Tights'!

One of the best movies featuring trad archery: Deliverance, using Bear bows no less!

My favorite Robin Hood movie as a kid was Robin and Marion with Sean Connery, Audrey Hepburn, and Richard Harris.

I was upset that the guys in Deliverance were shooting at trout instead of catching them on a flyrod!
Also made the observation that Burt's razorhead must not have been sharp enough!
That a was shocking movie for a young teenager...talk about moral dilemmas.

I really don't watch vampire movies so I'll take your word for it. Lots of good stuff regarding archery. Robin Hood by Richard Greene was the catalyst for many of us 50's kids...loved that show even though it was a little hokey now and then. But them, most things in the 50's was on the hokey side. We could use more of the 50's nowadays.

Thanks for the videos Buzz! I bought the box set, in VHS no less, of the TV series with Richard Green, at least 10 years ago. Watched them all as a kid, then revisited the entire series on tape. The best one, to me, was when Robin takes this Scottish guy around his camp in Sherwood Forest, showing the guy that makes the bows, the guy that makes the arrows, etc. He went into detail explaining how the arrow maker checked the spine, etc. great TV show.

The Robin of Sherwood series was my favorite representation of the story. I liked the idea that the mantle was passed on by Herne the Hunter to successive generations, tied in well with legend living on for many years.

You said it George, we sure could stand some of the 50's today, we sure aren't living next door to Wally and the Beaver anymore.

I liked the old Robin with Errol Flynn. Less techno stuff was around so there's more actual shooting.
