is there any real advantage to making Flemish twist strings with 2 loops? I just use one loop and a bowyers knot. It's much simpler and faster. Am I the only one?

Probably not the only one but certainly in the minority.

I have the time..and skill to make a two loop flemish 3 splice string..That fits properly..:)
I still use the single loop string with the bowyer's knot( timber hitch) for low tillering and bows I'm working on..
I suspect thru history that the single loop strings numbered in the hundreds of thousands for war bows..:)
So there's nothing wrong-headed about them..:) And they work fine..Jim

I've been using single loops strings for a long while. I can't ever seem to make a Flemish string correctly, so I began trying an overhand loop for a top and a timber hitch for a bottom loop. I make all my strings the same length, some have more "tail" than others.

I use a one loop string with a bowyers knot on most of my bows. I make my own bows and I never know what lenght string they will like. The one loop is very adjustable for changing brace hieght and the same string can be used on different bows. Down side is that, when you string your bow, the knot slips some. You have to check your brace hieght often and adjust the knot. Small price to pay. It has never caused me any trouble.

I can make double loops hit maybe I am just lazy lol I usually just make a single loop tie her up and then am done. However my double loop string are probably not nearly up to par with you guys that make them all the time. I just don't see a real advantage so I don't bother. From the sounds of it it's mostly personal preference. Thanks for the advice guys.
P.S. George I love your site and articles you rock man.

I like the double loop, but I have salvaged many a string that was too long by removing the bottom loop and using a bowyer's knot.

You mean the endless loop with whipped ends? I use that on about half my bows. I like the looks of the Flemish but on the lighter poundages I elect for the slightly faster endless loop.
