I have been trying to learn to spray bows with Kwik Kleen using a Preval Sprayer. The first layer, on an unfinished bow, goes down just fine, and looks good. The second layer, which I apply about 1/2 hour later, always orange peels... and if I try to eliminated the orange peel by spraying a thicker layer, it runs. I'm clearly not very good at this, but would appreciate any help or guidance the Leatherwall community could offer.

I am thinning the Kwik Kleen with the specific Kwik Kleen thinner ata 4:1 ratio of finish to thinner. The sprayer seems to handle this quite nicely without clogging.

I don't seem to have the same issues with a straight poly, waiting a day, and sanding between each coat. I was, of course, just trying to save some time.

Perhaps lacquer finishes just aren't for me.

I don't know anything about Kwik kleen finish. You say its like a lacquer, lacquer should have differt temperature thinners.so it can flow when its hot or dry quicker when cold. Jeff F

Just seems like it's not melting into the previous layer like I have expected. Kwick Kleen is advertized as a conversion finish that dries quickly like a lacquer but 'converts' polyurethane over the course of it's 'setting'.

Anyways, I was just looking for tips on what I might be doing wrong. Perhaps I should thin a tad more, or insure the bow is warm when I am spraying.

I'd give it a little longer between coats. More thinner might soften the first coat you laid down.

I agree, longer between coats and not heavy coats. A heavy second coat can orange peel or curdle previous coats.

I will definitely try waiting longer a doing thinner coats. Thanks. Would, say, 1 hour be enough.... or longer. The instructions recommend all coats be applied within a 6 hour period so could, perhaps, do 1 coat every 1 1/2 or so.

1 1/2 go by the last coat for final end time time give plenty of time two days and sand fine grit. Say 400 grt thin coats yes. Jeff
