Four months of coming home empty handed from the swap meet.....finally had it broken today in a very pleasant way by finding what appears to be a '64 Griz 62" 50#@28" "Dogleg" near mint......two weeks ago, while shooting at Balboa (Rube Powell Archery Range) I ran into a Union Tribune reporter doing a story about the Cabrillo bridge remodle and when he saw Don & I shooting he apparently thought we'd be a better story.....he took a lot of pictures and the following day I found myself of the front page of the local edition. The evening I got a call from a nice old guy who said he saw the article and got my phone# from the phone book.....and wanted to know if I was interested in his Hoyt? We met the next day at a nearby bank. Turns out, he's a retired Air force pilot/sheriff who was going into surgery next week for his 4th heart operation and 8th stint. No one close to this family was interested in the bow. It's a 70" 36#@28 Pro Hoyt "Medalist" in pristine condition. After a small bit a negotiation I bought it.

What do you call this type of dampening system? The stabilizers can move in any direction.

I thought it might be......but the serial number started with a 4 and in doing some research they only made that bow in'63. Is it a type I model?

Bear did not use the number for the date until 1965 and through 1969.

That Pro Medalist was the Hoyt flagship prior to their takedown bow, and in my opinion is one of the top 3 one piece target bows ever made....maybe the best.

Nice find! That dogleg is one Bear I've never owned. Good for you, enjoy. Nice draw weight as well.

Don't worry Paul, I'm sure you're more famous than you think.

Side note, but, they allow archery in Balboa Park?

Yes. We are very lucky to have 46 acres nestled closely around the world class museums and botanical gardens.
