I shoot 50 at 29 and have .610's that weigh 525 and .390's that weigh 650 grains. Both arrows shoot bullet hole through paper with the big 160 Snuffer at 12 feet and 12 yards.
My opinion is that if you used a COC you wouldn't have to worry about 550 grains.
No, you don't have to bare shaft (you sound like that's a problem) just tune a broadhead to shoot where your field points shoot. Use the broadhead tipped arrow as it was the bare shaft - same rules apply. www.acsbows.com/bowtuning.html, click download printer friendly and scroll down to the broadhead tuning area.

Pap23, you will be close to that weight with 100grain brass inserts and gold tip traditional shafts. Not sure if the 400 or 500 spine will work best for you. I would try them both to see which flys correctly.

With a 3555 ..can only guess what cut as this should really be bare shaft tested to get it right...people will suggest, but I find that very few really know their draw length and this will greatly affect what length you need for proper spine.
set that up with a 100 g brass insert at 30" (just for math sake) and a 125g point should give you about 500 g and will kill anything legal in the lower 48.
However, if you would like to give it a try, you may be able to set up a 5575 with the same weight up front (225g) with a total arrow weight of about 540g with a 32" (full length) arrow. It is likely that it will need to be full length and might still be a little stiff. The pch is cut past center and requires a slightly stiffer spine than a bow that is not.
Simply measuring draw length will give you a static idea, but is seldom even close to what your dynamic draw length is.
Had a gentleman come by the shop to peruse inventory. Asked why he could only bet bares hafts of .600 spine to shoot out of his 54 lb recurve...I asked all the basic questions and they were in line. Then I asked draw length and was told he was measured at 27"s...ok, that should still be a .500. Then I watched him shoot. He was shooting a full length shaft I had given him to try out of one of my bows. He had a full 8"+ hanging out past the end of the riser + no more than 24" draw.
Just sayin... bigJim

I agree with Big Jim on all points. Most dont draw what they claim, and are shooting too heavy a spine. Seen a guy shooting 75/95 gold tips out of a 50# bow ! I suggested he try a 35/55, and his response was "They fly good " ! Compared to what? a fence post ? I guess soem think they are tougher if they shoot a heavier spine ? LOL. I can gurrantee if that fellow bareshafted he would see his arrows hitting the target sideways and way off mark. Some make spine way more complicated than it is. Bareshafting is the only answer.

I'm with r.grider on this, I dont understand why guys shooting such low poundage bows are shooting the same spine I shoot out of my 60# bow.

Many aren't willing or able to spend the money on new arrows and they were mistakenly prescribed the wrong sticks.
I've grown to be increasingly skeptical when I here mention of known draw length and reports of "they fly good".
I'm not here to sell just "any" arrows. I would just as soon sell someone the "correct" arrows the first time if possible.

1973 Bear Kodiak Hunter says 46 lbs under the plate. I draw 27". Shooting 30" Victory VForce V3 with 4" Duravanes off a Bear Weatherest. Arrows say 30-50 lb on them .500 spine I think?. They don't fly well until I put 175 grain point on the tip.
